Oh Ozark Im so sorry, duh, It is 11.05pm here on Wed.!!!!
The thread was by fowlweatherfriends!!!
I just tested the link to thread and it didnt come up.
anyhow I printed it off for future emergencies.
ill try and put the thread address back in shortly, ill search again. I found it under (search : hatching help*) and i found lots of threads on this subject.
Anyhow, i bought the egg inside for better lighting and got my eyebrow tweezers.
I started chipping carefully at the zip hole, the membrane was very white so it had started to dry out, i moistened it with a drop of water.
the poor little chick was squawking with every little pinch, geez he/she made a racket!! nearly woke the household!
She started to wriggle her foot out of the hole whilst I chipped around, then I saw blood!!!!!
Not alot but enough to cause an anxiety attack!
I hope I havent caused this, I didnt break the membrane, well I dont think I did.
I got the shell off her and she was still tucked up and wet, so I cupped her in my warm hands under my jumper and raced outside and put her under mum.
The chick was cheeping and mum was trying to calm her down whilst wriggling over her.
I blessed the chick with a prayer to St Francis and then had a "chuck" sorry, but for want of a better word I said it!
It was so nerve wracking but also gratifying to think I may have saved her. But also I hope she doesnt suffer any ill effects from my help. She has a nice strong voice, nothing wrong with the "lungs"!
I went outside again and had a listen and all is quiet except for a couple of softer cheeps. If she makes it through I will call him/her lucky and she had better not be a Roo!
The ducklings havent hatched yet but you will be first to know!!!
