Nevadans?

I keep seeing this pinterest and have not a clue what it's all about?

We were very lucky, we bought our house before the market bloomed in '95. We watched the market go up and up and up. We read about people entering into lotteries to buy homes. They were parked for days in the housing developments and prayed their number was chosen. Houses couldn't be built fast enough. And then all at once - BOOM! Gone. Houses are empty now. Crime is starting to form around neighborhoods.

Neighbors on both sides of us leave their backyard lights on because of people breaking into their homes even while they sleep. It makes no difference they both have dogs. We put an alarm in our house about 5 years ago and we have had nothing happen. Except for someone coming in our backyard and stealing Mille's football. That was really strange.

We've had several attempts. Tater chased them off both times. I keep an aluminum baseball bat right beside my bed, and my husband keeps removing it to teach his Scouting troop, then forgetting to put it back. I told him, I have to be aware of whether or not I have my bat. I count on it being there, because the guns are on the other end of the house, and the ammo is in a totally different place.

Yes times are super tough these days. We are renting right now but are thinking of buying either this place or another in the area. We love it up here! I'm wanting so many animals though, I think we need 20 acres instead of ten. Prices are so low up here and they project it's not going up any time real soon. It's a great time to buy, lousy time to sell.

My dream is to have beef cattle (if you're going to raise for yourselves you may as well have a few more so you can make some profit off all that labor), lots of chickens (getting there fast already) and a milk cow that I would love to share labor with other families on or we pay for the expenses and someone else can do the majority of labor and we would share the milk. Fresh milk is even more different from store bought than eggs are! Just amazingly good!

Broke down and bought a bator today. Old one is still working but when the power goes out it resets too high and has to be adjusted all over again. I need a new thermostat for it but I wanted a second bator too and couldn't afford both right now so I bit the bullet and did it.

Now we will have to really tighten our belts this month but we have enough fat reserves we should be fine without food.

Now I know I've lost control! I'm choosing chickens over food!

You sound like me. I should really buy people food for a change.

I wish you guys didn't have wind and snow. Already deal with wind, but I'd rather look at pics of that cold stuff. I need to take a road trip. Unless I was taking a trip across the country I only know the Bay Area. How pathetic is that But I need to find a place I love and soon.

Oh and horses and cattle have always been on my want list. Bill and I were even looking into raising Lowlines.

OH NO SUNNY!

It's okay you have enough of us chicken folks that'll feed you and Steve so you can get more chickens. Once your chickens start laying then you'll be fine since you can live off the eggs.

Oh the fresh milk is the best... illegal to buy or sell in Nevada, so cow sharing seems to be a great way to go because one is doing neither. Illegal to bring across state lines also... ugh! Don't get me started on the whole "raw" milk thing! It is a complete pet peeve of mine. Had some friends who where Mennonite (left the church) we used to get the fresh milk all the time, made kefir etc etc etc...

Hey all. I think Im going to get rid of my birchen roo. I paid 25$, so if anyone wants him for that, speak up. He's Show quailty. I lost my hen.

She was the sweetest girl. The rabbit coop where I had them in quarintine blew open yesterday afternoon, and I cant find her anywhere. There arent even feathers. The roo was just chillin with the other chickens.
