Nevadans?

Can I get gardening input please? I'm trying to decide whether to start another flat of Indigo Rose tomato... the brand new strain that's red on the inside and indigo on the outside. It probably won't be offered as plants anywhere else in Reno. Sahara wants to sell my extra seedlings to fund her brother's scout trip, and I'll probably post them on Craigslist. I have 100 seeds started so far.

I didn't know that either but I do use it, I guess I'll add some to the little ones grit then. I used the medicated last year when I didn't know any better, it was recommended by Cindy at Greens Feed and I did have 3 chickens get sick here and there and it was hard to fix them.

BTW, Patty is back to normal now. I don't know if it was the Pen-G but she's back to her old self and no more bumps. She also laid an egg today. I only did 3 shots because I didn't want to over do it with this potent medication. I don't like using it but I guess it saved her or she healed herself.

Oh and another btw, poor poor sweet Bella, I feel so sorry for her. She laid an egg today that weighed 3.05 ounces. All I can say is OUCH!

Candled the duck eggs tonight, one looks like it's leaking a touch of yolk. Perhaps it slightly broke it? I don't know, this is my first time hatching any type of eggs. Perhaps I'm wrong. I will try not to open the incubator until my mind and body won't listen to each other anymore and I open it up anyways. I think that's going to be the hardest not to do. Boy am I really getting nervous here. I really don't know how you guys could stand it with this waiting and counting the days. Wow, it is extremely hard.

Welcome back Ron. Sorry to hear about your computer troubles. I can't wait to see pics of your new little babies.

Missy, I have 8 hens and 3 drakes. I always must count them though when I go outside. And once I add the 2 little ones that will be 10. I can have 2 more until John will need to add on to the coop if he doesn't get to it soon. He needs to move his shed first though so I can get the coop where it belongs and then make the duck enclosure after that.

Candy, sorry to hear about you having the flu. It isn't fun for sure. I ended up getting the swine flu a few years ago and it wiped me out. My 2 doctors couldn't believe I actually survived it without being put in the hospital. Please take care of yourself. There's only 1 you.

How many flats are you planning on planting? I myself am not into the different types of tomatoes as much as I am in planting tomatoes that are the most abundant with their fruit but I do know my MIL loves the special different types there are and I know she would love some of them. You'll meet her Sunday.

Tonight I just planted 6 flats of 72 peat pots each... 432 total. Eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, and some herbs. 3 of the flats are just the 7 different kinds of tomato. I have more than enough Indigo Rose seed to plant a couple more flats, if Sahara could sell them. It would probably cost me $15 more, total, for the peat pots, the transplat dirt, etc. for another flat.

Sunny, How are the three pullets doing that I sent up to you? That was really hard for me to let them go! I still have 60 chickens and need to cut back some more

When I went to box them up, the clean faced pullet actually flew out of the box and ran back into the chick house. All of the pullets were screaming and the 3 roosters started trying to attack me! Sheesh was that tramatic!! I think the buff x wheaten pullet is the nicest I have hatched so far. I am looking forward to hatching a lot more of them for my buff project when I get back from our trip to Florida.

They are doing great! I thought I would have to keep them separate for awhile but when I let them out in the coop to play they ran right over to their hatchmates and were jumping and testing their wings enjoying themselves. I guess they just didn't like being cooped up in a box cause they are doing well now. I peeked in on them after dark and they are sleeping on the roosts with the other chicks from the same hatch. The bigger ones congregate on the far end under the higher lamp and the littler ones all stay under "their" heat lamp.

It is still too cold up here to take the warming lamps away but I will move them up a bit as the days get warmer. The coop is insulated but I worry about the little ones not having as much body heat as the big birds. The coop is really large for so few birds so I figure the extra heat is a good thing right now.

I know some folks say I am creating problems by not getting them used to the cold once they are fully feathered but I figure they have next fall to get used to it.

The buff x wheaten is a super mellow Sweetie! The curly toed gal was a little nervous of me at first even though I tried to give her some extra love when she first got here. She doesn't seem scared of me anymore but she won't come running over to say Hi either, like the others do. The rest of them are at least very curious to see what I've brought them. One of the original lavenders is the funniest to watch though. She is forever running up to me to peck my hand to see if I have a treat or to get her chest rubbed. None of the others are so "in your face" as she is. She cracks me up!

Sorry you had such a traumatic time getting them boxed up. It can't have been much fun for any of you.

Sheryl I'm so glad that Patty is back to normal. And way to go Bella! I've had eggs get over 4oz before and I've heard of one over 6oz on BYC!

Missy I have no idea how easy it would be to sell tomato plants on CL. Sorry but I'm no help at all.

That makes me feel better. Thanks! I am glad you still have heat lamps for the chicks because I forgot to tell you I am still using them for mine.

Great news! I'm so glad she recovered. I guess you never know with chickens.

It's probably worth a shot since you don't have to put out much more money to do it. Do you have you flats set up with lights, etc.? I'm cleaning my home office so I can start my seeds in there.
