Well, it was a long day at Sunny's for the move. I didn't do much lifting and carrying since I was busy wrangling my kids all day but my husband did. Missy and Russ, and Aubrey and Mark came as well. Sunny and Steve still have lots to do but they have all week. Their new place is a really lovely home. Sunny's lasagna was excellent as was the homemade ice cream.
We were gone all day but found 12 eggs in the nest boxes with all intact and no pokes or cracks. Then I checked in the run in case there were any there. I heard some noise and looked up and saw 5 of the little chicks up on top of the welded wire. It's hard to explain how it's set up but they were still in the enclosed run but there is an overlap of wire on the top. The brahma had wedged herself in with her neck through the 2x3 hole and I think she really couldn't have gotten out by herself. So I ended up getting the bolt cutter and cutting the wire around her to release her. I brought her inside the house to check her out and she is fine. the others were fine as they were just roosting on the flat part.
Then this morning I found one of the jaers inside the main part of the coop waiting by the door. her comb was pecked and bloody but she was ok, just scared. So i have to block off the top of the divider in the run. that's how she got to the other side.
adventures in chicken raising....always something new going on!
the banana ice cream with chocolate shavings was excellent as were the other flavors. yes, I sampled all three flavors! (vanilla bean ice cream and strawberry lemon sorbet).![]()
sounds awesome, Ron! glad you had a good time.
Hope things improve for you soon!
Thanks Elizabeth.
I'm in the process of moving out and moving in with a friend until i move in September.
Ouch, sounds like things kind of went downhill. I hope it ends up smoothing out a bit and you still end up having an awesome summer.

Quote: Good to hear from someone that has one!!! That makes me feel a lot better!
I hope Meg gets better soon!
I get no internet service at the new place, we have to figure that out still. In one area we can get a very weak signal to send a text but that is all. We need to get a landline or get a repeater just need to do the research and figure out the best plan.Sure is quiet around here! All I can think about is everyone eating that banana ice cream with chocolate and nuts on top!!! Guess y'all are too tired and full of good nosh after helping Sunny move, to post how it all went.
Hope it was smoothly. So nice of those of you who helped.
I'll bring you some ice cream te next timne we come by!
Hi Lisa!!! Good to hear from you! Can't really help you either on that question. Some hens will mother any chicks and some don't even mother their own very well. It is so individual.Hi, I'm back. I want a blue pied call! Sooo cute.![]()
I have a question, we have BCM chicks and mom won't let us near them. The have their feathers, can I take mom and dad away so we can hold them and get them friendly? I have another hen seeting on eggs in the same coop. So it would be her and the chicks. Not shore what the chicks would do, go to her as a new mom? Would she hurt them?
Quote: A CRANE!!! That's what we'll do next time! hahaha!
And you were a joy to have Aubrey!!! I've never seen anyone handle a situation like that so calmly!
OK hoping it won't be 3 days before I can get on again!
I went to see the dr today for my hand numbness. She thinks it is carpal tunnel. I have a wrist brace to wear, will take some anti inflammatory meds, ice the wrist at lunch and in the evening and see if there is improvement in the next month or two. if not, then i'll see a specialist. Could require surgery down the road but hopefully not. So far, I hate the wrist brace but I'll have to get used to it. It's hard to type with it.
hope you get some internet access figured out soon, Sunny! we need you on here more than that!
yes, it's a miracle I've gone until now without getting carpal tunnel. I'm chronically tight in neck, shoulders, etc. all from the computer. well, i need to just rest it as much as I can when not at work.Uggh, how frustrating for you both!
You know, I see more work-related injuries from computers than anything else. When I ask people what they do at work, they say, "Nothing, just sit at a computer all day." But it's those computers and the bad ergonomics that cause so many problems.
Elizabeth I went from construction to computers, the highest risk occupation for carpal tunnel to the second-highest. So needless to say I developed carpal tunnel. I had the surgery on both wrists. I had a severe case, though, to the point where it would wake me up at night from the pain and I couldn't clench or straighten out my fingers. The surgery is a hassle (though thankfully not very painful) because it takes 6 weeks to heal and each wrist has to be done seperately. But the good news is, I haven't been bothered by it since!yes, it's a miracle I've gone until now without getting carpal tunnel.
