Nevadans?

What's it look like? I don't remember if you ever posted any pics of it.

I used some wire racks that a friend gave me, tied them with zip ties, and put the 6mil plastic over it. All of the corners are fastened with heavy duty velcro so I could take the walls down and fold the plastic up during the summer, then maybe put shade cloth on the framework (which I've done.) The top is flat, so it's not great for a lot of snow, but it folds back so I can let the plants get full sun. That way, I didn't have to worry about sunburn... they were in the sun from the very start, on any day over 45 degrees.

I lined the inside with Christmas lights, and those stayed on at night, any time the nights dropped below 40 degrees. On nights when it froze, I put a heat light in there, and draped quilts over the top. It stayed a balmy 50 degrees that way, on nights that it dropped down to 20. It really was not this bright at night... just a gentle glow behind translucent plastic. The night setting on the camera magnified the light.

The framework, right now, us used to hold up my sack potatoes. I can move my container egglant into it during the hot part of the summer and drape it all with shadecloth. Then when I want to take it down, I just cut the zip ties and stack the racks beside the fence.

Well I finally got my garden planted - partially, anyway.

I planted my garli, onions and potatoes (hopefully not too late). Then I went to Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson and bought some already started plants - four different kinds of tomato, two yellow zucchini, a red bell pepper and a green bell pepper, and a cantaloupe. I'm still going to plant some seeds, too - some fast growing items like radishes, beets and carrots, plus of course my corn! I should be able to get at least two crops of the corn and maybe three.

I'll have to look through my seeds and see what else I have that grows fast. I really need a hoop house!
A lot of folks up here say it is just now time to plant outdoors. It froze again a few days back so maybe they know something we don't. But yea a hoop house would be awesome!!!
Quote: That is so cool! I'm loving the home grown lettuce so much I plan to grow it year round from now on.

Bad news tonight. Did my head count and one was missing. That one was my very sweet Nanners, the gold laced polish. She's just vanished without a trace. We sent out the search party and found nothing. I am not getting my hopes up. I really REALLY loved that bird. She was one of my very favorites. Definitely an ambassador for this flock. No one ever came over and walked away without petting or holding her. She was a people chicken for sure. She was also the one to chase down cats when they came into the yard. She was feisty. Even would go after my cats if they dared to come outside, lol. Not to mention she was cuter than anything, i swear. Cute and SMART AS HECK. I dont know what could have happened to her. The only logical explainatio is that she was taken by a hawk or something and even that isnt that logical. Shes not exactly a full sized chicken but shes not small either. There are much smaller birds here, and there is no sign of struggle, or feathers, or anything. Shes just... gone.... Im really, really sad. i cant even believe it. Gosh i wish i knew which of these eggs belonged to her. ...

Aubrey, this is horrible! I agree that she's awfully big to be taken by a hawk. You lock them in at night right? So she was there this morning....could someone walking by see her, discover she's so friendly, then walk off with her? Crossing my fingers that she returns safely!

Your finger crossing worked! Nanners is home safe and sound :) I went out early this morning to search for her before I let the others out. I couldn't find her anywhere in the yard though I looked EVERYWHERE. So finally I peaked over the neighbors fence and called to her. I heard little footsteps running up to me but still couldn't see her. I finally just chaulked it up to me hearing things and got down off the fence. Turned around and there she was standing at my feet. What the heck?! She was really hungry and thirsty and didn't want me to pick her up which is weird. I have no clue where she could have been last night as we searched WVERYHERE. But I'm just glad she is home :)

Great news! Nanners great adventure will forever be her secret but I'm so glad she made it back home!!!!! I can't imagine your relief when you found her this morning! Yippee!
