Penturner, im glad shes alright.
Aubreynoramarie, i have a white silkie roo i would like to get rid of. I cant keep any of my banty roos.

I already gave the black and buff ones to my neighbors, but i still get to use them as stud for next year, when ill be trying to hatch some little silkie fuzzy butts out. So if you want black or buff and can wait til next spring (maybe late this summer, theyre close to maturing) I can set you up there, or you can have Muff.

Youre welcome.

That sucks about the roos though. I like having them around. I think one of my EEs is a rooster, actually, which is good. I have to have a big rooster. I was going to get one, but then the bossman changed his mind. But i'll keep you updated.

The 3 that pipped under the hen and finished hatchin' in the incubator are doing great,
but the last 2 eggs that I took from under the hen and put in the incubator so the Granchickie & I could watch the pipping and the hatching didnt make it due to my impulsiveness.

Had I left them under the broody hen we very well may have had 2 more adorable fuzzies in the brooder tank.

I learned a tough lesson about being impulsive and how it can have devastatin' consquences to animals.

Learning AFTER the fact how important regulating the humidity inside the incubator was, WITH the proper instrument, turned me from Grama to Chick Killer, not once but TWICE!

I will NEVER EVER use the incubator without a hydro/hygrometer. PROMISE!!!

Penturner, it was good to read that yer Mom is on the way to recovery in her home.
Whatta picture that would be to see ya bein' greeted by yer yicken with such affection.

Bloomie:

Last time I hatched out eggs I had a hydrometer attached to the thermometer. (see pic) It came from K-Mart and cost well-under $5. I was AMAZED at how just a simple lift of the incubator lid could destroy the moist environment therein. I'm pretty sure I glued a chick or two to their shell in my efforts to remove hatchlings. Mea culpa (even though on eggtopsy they were males and would've been doomed eventually). Well, live and learn. When you know better, you do better. I think we've all been there.

Bloomie, Don't be nearly so hard on yourself. Hatching time is an outright risky time for the chicks. Tons of reasons they fail to get out of the egg. Actually I consider you had a very successful hatch. It is true that hens are way better at it than we ever hope to be. Enjoy the ones that did make it and don't take the blame for those that didn't.

Enjoy the Holiday everyone.

So, we picked up a couple chicks from the swap a couple weeks ago, and yesterday one became lethargic. This morning she wouldn't move or open her eyes. I started with the sugar-water force-feeding, and she seemed to get a little energy, although she's not moving much and just breathing a little heavier. Any ideas or expectations?
