Nevadans?

And I was a hellion in college..... But kept critters with my roommates' permission. So at UCD at various times I had in residency with me a cat, a guinea pig, a hamster, a snake and a breedery of mice to feed the same, one dwarf rabbit (Miss October), goldfish and finches.

(Truth be told, though, I was a good kid. Got the goodie two shoes citizenship award at school often and honor roll and Dean's list.... If I rebeled, it wasn't in an onerous manner. I just liked my crits!)

FlamingChicken, great thread!  Unfortunately, the only bantams I've owned have all turned out to be roosters, so I no longer own them.

Sunny... I don't know.  Maybe, "That's REAL home cookin'!"  That's the only thing I can think so far.

How about "Doing it all for the Love of Family" or "NOW we're Cookin' for Real." I like the last one cause you are always sharing your skills with the rest of us and the "we're" reflects that.

Hey everyone! Please check out this thread please! I need more entries.

No Banties here but good luck with the thread. There are so many folks that have Banties it should be a hit.

LOVE the story about the hidden prairie dogs, but aren't they kinda, well, mean for pets?   The only ones I've seen up close and personal were the ones at Jackalope in Santa Fe and they were downright nasty vicious!

As a kid I kept all sorts of critters in my room....some my folks knew about and some not.  The iguana I had hidden under my dresser for quite a bit until Mom was in the room one dreary day and noticed the unusual glow.  She never did find the mouse in my sewing kit, though.....Rodents were forbidden in the house (although when I was in college and would come home for holidays, the rule was lifted for my pet guinea pig).   It (the kit for the mouse) was a tall hatbox-like thing.  I could fit an exercise wheel in there and all the acoutrements.  But for a little mouse, it sure did stink.  How on earth did you keep the smell of prairie dogs down to a non-noticeable level?

It was her Mom that did that but, yeah, that's what I was wondering too.

OK I quoted Elizabeth but it didn't come up. - Bet it feels good to have the coop done. We have 2 coops that need cleaning out right now. Then I am going back to the deep litter method. I like that a lot better!

I was a great student in college but I won't talk about how I was in High School. Let's just say a career in politics would not be a good idea. I'd rather not have old acquaintances sharing stories of my youth with the press.

yep, feels good. the coop is clean but my house is still a disaster.

I'll be doing deep litter from now through the winter too. I made a little coop improvement as well today. i put up another board over the nest box--it covers the gap between the wall and the back of the nest box and sticks out over the front of the nest boxes a little. i covered it with vinyl flooring leftover from the playhouse. then I built a roost over the nest box. My medium age flock has been sleeping on top of the nest boxes and making a big mess so I thought this would work out good. the board will keep poop from getting down into the nest boxes. (I used some of the warped wood scraps which is why it looks a little crooked.)

My daughters chickens (she had 4 but lost 2 to predetars) all have eaten their eggs....they think. They've even tried where the egg drops down into a basket and she said that sometimes the hens will lay it and turn around quickly to get it before it drops into the basket! They also think they have rats. I wonder if your curtain idea would help with rats?

I don't think I've shared my chicky pictures here....
Wonder if my EE mom wonders why her kids have poofy heads

(I gave her Polish eggs to hatch).

Here's my Polish with the Polish chicks.

I'm thinking this one could be a white crested chocolate

My other EE broody who kept hatching rotten eggs during all the heat, finally hatched one today and looks like it's from my Black Australorp.

I haven't hatched any from my one Australorp. It has the tuxedo on and none of my other breeds have that.

Missy, if you have a smartphone, there's a free app from Mother Earth News about canning I thought you'd like.

Pam Great pics! What little cutie patootie booties! I just love the polish. The ones I got from Sunny are so much more silly than my hatchery stock ones. But I do love my hatchery polish too, they are so friendly and i like their mini bouffants. They look so hairsprayed into place, very 60s chic.

So I have some bad news. Well actually its not really bad news as much as it is obvious news. Banana Pants is a boy. womp womp womp. Spent a half hour chasing him around before he finally got himself cornered and i scooped him up for a full inspection. Millie has completely abandoned him outside during the day and has stopped attacking me when I show interest in him. He couldnt care less, he is so brave.

Heres some pics of him and his dinosaur feet and his beautiful gold lacing and his already bright pink comb!

I may just keep him until he starts crowing, just to see how he feathers out! I bet he is going to have a very silly head poof
