Nevadans?

Oh my gosh sunny that stinks!!!!! I would have definitely broken down too, especially since I know how far away your friend lives. YIKES! That really really stinks.
THANK HEAVEN your dad came to find you!!!! Awwww!

Mark and I are at the laundromat so I don't know what she is up to now but I'll give you an update before bed.
I've taken away her crumbles but left her water. Should I wait to give her any yogurt until the morning?
That was definitely a yuk factor! Glad you got it done. When was the last time you forced some eggs and whatnot into her?

From what I understand, you're supposed to only give water at first and tiny bits of food the next day, not allowing her to fill her crop. Doesn't sound like it will be an issue though, though she may be ravenous after this. I don't see any issues with putting a little bit of yogurt in her water so she at least keeps the beneficials going. Maybe a drop or two of oil on the water to help lubricate whatever is farther down.

She is actually quite bright eyed but then she may be just eying you and suspicious that you'll pick her up and do some other horrible thing to her!

I hope she survives.

Okay you guys prepare for some yuckyness. I am still reeling from it.
So I watched a few YouTube videos when I got home and prepared myself. Mark and I performed the deed tonight.
I decided that long hard thing was not supposed to be there, and since nothing else is working I might as well retrieve it.
We began prepping the area. Soaked the tools in iodine. we covered the table with seran wrap then paper towels. Next we layed Mama on her side. Mark held her legs and we covered her head with a towel. I clipped her feathers at the incision site and cleaned with iodine.
We made the first incision on the skin and she went mad. Held her and kept going. There was very minimal blood and we had gauze prepared to dab and clean. Next we made the first incision into the crop. It was thick and I really had to saw into it. I cut about a half inch ( just enough to stick my finger in there.) then all hell broke loose.
It was the most horrible smell I have ever experienced in my life. First a tremendous amount of puss came out (could've been yesterday's yogurt though) followed by gobs and gobs of the scrambled eggs that I have been FORCE FEEDING the poor bird. Anyway there is a pic to follow of what we pulled out but I found two twigs in there. I don't know if they were causing an obstruction though because they came out with the heap of egg. If they weren't the reason for this impaction then it's something far along the digestive track because I stuck my finger in all corners of that sucker.
After I felt around to ensure there was no more hard anythings, I used a dropper to flush water into the crop and squeeze it back out. We then cleaned the open wound with warm water and iodine.
I decided against sutures and instead went with crazy glue. All of the YouTube videos used crazy glue and I must say it was a good choice. It bonded the crop back together immediately and did the same to her skin. We let her sit for a few minutes before washing the front of her with warm water.
She is now relaxing in her crate.
Here is the egg I pulled out and the two twigs. It was a lot of stuff. Initially I only felt one twig so I'm hoping the other one was clogging her up. If not I've really done all I can do and am at a loss. Because of her having three days worth of food in her, I am confident that worms were NOT the problem. It was either these twigs or something farther down keeping this food from going anywhere. Doesn't explain why her crop was empty when I found her emaciated but quite frankly I am completely stumped and out of explanations.

Oh my!!! What a Wonder Woman you are! You and Mark are both amazing to have done that with no experience! Mama is lucky to have you both! I would give yogurt and water right away. The super glue should hold just fine. Wow! I still can't get over this!!! Poor Mama she does look awfully skinny.

Hopefully this will do the trick for her and she will be right as rain in no time!

Thanks guys!
Lacy the last time I force fed her eggs was yesterday around 5pm. Her crop wasn't empty but I felt like I had to. She then got yogurt at 8:00 pm. I didn't give her any food this morning. That amount of egg is definitely more than what she got yesterday. I'd say that is three days worth of egg.

That's too funny! Guys seem to be so squeamish!

One time I had to have my son hold one of my birds while I did something to it... I had to amputate part of a toe on a young cockerel because he had gotten it caught in the wire and broken it. I had it all bandaged and thought it might heal but he kept pulling the bandages off and then the end of his toe died and I had to amputate it. Long story. Anyway, my son was only holding him while I changed the bandage on it about a week or so after I did the deed.

I didn't know a person could stand at the angle he was standing at and not fall down!

Oooohhhh! Aubrey you are such a Sweetie! I wrote that before I saw the post about what you went through tonight! You are such a love to be able to show me sympathy after the day you've had!!! I probably wouldn't have posted my ordeal today if I'd known what you had gone through first. *huge hugs*

Lacy that's funny! Boys are so weird. Us girls are tough as nails I tell ya! Mark is still looking pretty pale too, hahaha. Tell ya what, I'm a leg up when I start vet tech school next year!

Sunny there is no way what I did was as crummy as what you had to deal with today. It was honestly not bad and there wasn't even really any blood. It was just putrid and smelled SO BAD haha. I was worried about mama briefly because she was breathing very raspy and had her eyes closed. I ha a full on doctor mode. "we may lose the patient! Do not panic, push through it!". But I think she just went into shock. I didn't really have time to be upset afterward because she really looks totally one with it. In fact a few minutes after she let out this giant disgusting smelly burp and made me laugh quite a bit!

Wow, you two have had very exciting days! I wouldn't want to live either of those for you. Aubrey, you're my idol! (Sunny, you were already my idol. But how frustrating! I would have cried long before you did.)
