Nevadans?

OK I am finally getting around to creating a Breeder's page. If anyone wants to be added to the list or has a Breeder they have used and liked a lot please list the name here.

Include breeds and varieties offered as well as when you offer them and whether you ship what you offer or not. So you can see the format I'm using click here.

I've only got my info in right now but hopefully I'll get a lot of feedback soon to add to it. Please check your spelling carefully since I'll be copying and pasting the info in and I don't want to have to edit it.

I would love to add Breeders from the surrounding states as well. Let's face it... Nevada is slim pickins when it comes to quality Breeders. Actually for Breeders period! So if we can include Breeders from CA, OR, ID, UT and AZ that would be awesome. To tell you the truth I'd drive further than that for something I really wanted.

Hi Sunny

Here's my info...

Andalusian large fowl (bantam project for a future date)

My daughter (Campinegirl)

Golden Campine large fowl.
Chamois Campine large fowl.

Sorry about your chickie!

I do have 3 little bantams that I picked up as company for a single hatched chick here. Well, he doesn't need their company anymore and I was thinking I would just cull them. But if you want them you can have them.

Two are roosters.

One is barred all over and half silkie, I think.
One is an EE bantam. He's black with some gold here and there on his wings and hackles.
One is a little girl... she's a blue half silkie. I don't know what her other half is. She's as cute as can be.

If you have a friend or yourself coming through Fallon one of these days fairly soon, I could meet you in town and just hand them off to you.
How long do you think you could hold on to them for? I want to see how the next few weeks play out and go from there, but I could definitely keep/find homes for them :) I know many people that go through Fallon often :)

Did some research looks like the position this chick is in is common for the disease and that famyios are more resistant and sebrights are very susceptible

LOL!   Touche!   Not one of my better-worded sentences.....   She actually was already looking for someplace with less heat and more trees and I think less people (she's a PTSD person and kind of nervous about a lot of stuff....if she were a horse we'd say VERY high strung, e.g., occasionally-scrape-her-off-the-ceiling high strung).  I think my paying for lessons facilitated her move as she was taking a road trip to scout out living quarters shortly thereafter.  The studio is still here in LV until the end of the month, so I'm getting in as much bead time as I can as her business partner in the same space is there and packing up stuff.   Luckily one of the other ousted studio residents is setting up a studio where I can find torch time.   (Truth be told, I have enough stuff except for a kiln -- to be purchased in April at the Expo -- and an oxygen concentrator that I can set up my own studio in our casita....but I'm kind of saving that space for storing the family furniture before our move as I'd hate to have to pay $$ each month for a storage unit... cheaper and less of a hassle just to buy studio time until I can set up a dedicated permanent space in some artsy corner of NM.)

Sounds like you are better off without the high strung teacher. Good luck getting all setup so you can do it at home.

Cool. I'll add your info when I get home. :)

Sunny can you add my info from the California thread please??????

Candace I'm so sorry you're having a hard time with the Silkies. Mine lay a couple of eggs a year. Not your typical Silkies. I only keep them around cause they're cute, but I've known people who have gotten really weak Silkies in the past. I don't know what it is. With one lady, I think the birds had been so inbred that the line was weak. Not that I don't do inbreeding, but you have to introduce something here and there to keep them from becoming to weak and no longer looking like the breed. I don't know if you can do it from NV, but UC Davis does testing. You can arrange free shipping I believe. Check the first page of the CA thread and the information in there, so you could look into it. At least you'd know what your dealing with before subjecting new chicks. And don't worry about chicks. I'm sure you'll find many here. I have some bantam breeds, but only the blue Langshuns are laying right now. I just set some of their eggs tonight to see how fertility is. If it looks like I'll be able to get them to hatch, I'll find a way to send some to you maybe next hatch. That is if you want that breed.

I have another 4 wk old white one that's starting to act "lazy".. My husband already disposed of the silkie, so if this one doesnt make it I will look into shipping it to be tested, thanks for the info :) I decided to have chickens again to keep my 2 yr old and myself entertained and busy, thought silkies would be fun lol. If they don't make it, I won't be picky, just want pets and fresh eggs in the long run :) healthy, strong, preferably vaccinated chickies

I don't think there is anywhere within 200 miles that could do a necropsy :/ if the silkies I have dont make it, I'm open for pretty much any bantam. This is so depressing :(
When something like this happens it can get discouraging. I've kept chickens on and off for over 30 years but 2 years ago lost all 35 chickens, except my roo to something that killed them and piled them in the run. I gathered up the eggs from what had been laid the evening before, what was in the refrigerator, bought a horribly cheap, labor intensive incubator and started over. Sold the incubator as soon as I got some chicks and it's all a distant memory. You'll find chicken happiness again, sooner then later I hope....and welcome to the thread.

Hi all!

So sad to read about the silkies. I know nearly nothing about Mareks as all my hatchery chicks have been vaccinated. The eggs I've hatched have been NPIP and I haven't ever had a disease problem. I'm curious: Is it something that is just contagious within the immediate flock or is it something that can lurk in coops for years? Once it hits your property can it be eradicated or will all future coop inhabitants be subjected to it? Are some chickens just naturally immune? (Is there a pathologist in the house?)

I've just been lurking as I've been bizzy with hither and yon travels to the Bay Area as we've got Hospice in the mix now for Mom. Parkinsons is really insidious stuff and the end stage is not pretty with the dementia and body wasting. I'll be glad when it's all over and can focus on nicer things. ('nuff said)

To compensate, I've been using the lampwork studio torch time as therapy.... It has kept me sane to just totally disconnect for a bit an focus on something else (that and putting together my dream flock in my head when we finally get to a place that allows chickens).

The latest:

Really beautiful work. I'm a glass artist but have made my living in stained and etched glass, although I've done lampwork, only enough to carry some beads around in my pocket.

Hard work keeping the bead in one part of the flame while getting the next color ready!
I am in the NW too! I feel alone being the only person I know who has chickens. So I would love to chat with others that share my LOVE of them. Thanks for welcomingme!

Welcome!
I wanted to share pics of Steve the lil rooster. He is going through juvenile moult right now and the new feathers coming in are absolutely GORGEOUS. He is half golden cuckoo Marans and half silkie. Gorgeous mahagony barring. Can't wait to see how he turns out!

Look at that! Can't wait to see him grow up.
I will be expecting chicks around Easter but I have not joined the Easter Hatch thread. It was crazy last year and it got to be a real headache just trying to keep up with it. I'm gonna pass on the craziness this year.
I read about the Easter Hatch and thought oooooohhh, I could do that with my new incubator but then read this and decided I didn't need anymore crazyness! LOL

It's been a looooooong time. I am down to just 4 Marans, 1 polish, and 3 ducks. Oh and 4 mini Rex girls. Still home schooling Rion. He is doing great! He will finish early in History, Science, Art and Lit. I really want to get into Aquaponics with the duck pond. And I'm going to try and get my photography business back up and running. For those who don't know me I'm in Pahrump NV. This is Bobby telling Rion it's time to get out of the car, he's home.

Lacy I'm missing a lot of info for you and your listing. Take a look at the Breeder's page and give me the missing info please. You can PM it instead if you'd like. Where I put Large Fowl it should read "Blue, Black, Splash". I didn't include this cause I wasn't sure you carried all the varieties.

OK all, remember I asked that your Breeder information be written in the format listed on the Breeder's page. I am doing this for free but to have to rewrite everything rather than copy and paste will be quite time consuming and I don't think it's too much to ask to have everyone's info written out in the correct format. To make it easier just copy and paste the info into a pm then insert your info into each area instead of the info copied.
Sunny can you add my info from the California thread please??????
Kim I'll add your info. I'd love to include anyone that wants to be included from the CA thread too, just don't want to copy and paste everyone and then find out they only sell local or are no longer breeding. I will copy and paste the format into the CA thread and anyone that wants to be listed on my Breeder page can pm me the info.

I read about the Easter Hatch and thought oooooohhh, I could do that with my new incubator but then read this and decided I didn't need anymore crazyness! LOL
Haha! Oh everyone should do it once just so you know what everyone is talking about. lol
