I ended up majoring in Social Sciences with an emphasis in Math. Taught science for several years in California but when we moved here I stopped because they pay hardly anything. I spent most of what I made on supplies 'cause I love teaching interactive stuff and doing experiments with the kids.
It was so much fun but not a money maker! The parents paid my salary by doing fundraisers because they wanted their kids to have more science, not just the dry textbook stuff. I went into each class for an hour to an hour and a half depending on the grade level. The teachers loved it too since they got to go take a break during that time and get caught up on grading or prep. Twice a year we did a more involved experiment that took more time so I just combined classes and got parents to help. It really was a blast!

i dont like math but im good in it.

can't take a frizzle/frazzle roo if he's black... i have a black frazzle hen already and you're not sposed to breed frizzle to frizzle.. that's how you get frazzle... 2 frizzle genes.. and they end up with brittle feathers that break...

if she can hold on to him a little longer thought i might be able to make him a holding pen and keep him until my mom can take him to by brothers house if washington...??
i just got 2 more roos the other day.. lol... both banty cochins...
1 frazzled red
1 smooth barred

i'm putting the barred with my black girls.. so i'll get smooth and frizzled barred out of that pen,
the frazzle red will go in with my smooth red girl and i'll get frizzled reds out of that pen....

may look at getting a BBS silkie hen or 2 and a few buff or red silkies to put in the appropriate pens too..... maybe....

i still have to figure out if a pair of MFCochins are in the budget by feb.... i want them ssoo bad... just not sure i'll have the extra $50 in a month....

Writing is a skill I'd like to develop too. What genre are you interested in?

I will but my new babies probably won't be laying until November or December of next year.

I'd love to see more pics of your current chickens and eggs. I'll start with my gals I have now and their eggs...

and some my girls...

These were taken awhile ago. They are bigger and fatter now, but i can't coax them out in the open for a pic now (too much snow still).

Your turn!!!

oohhh i want the speckled egg layer!!! lol...

here's my first green egg

that's not all one day... unfortunatley... at that point the green layer was my 3rd to start.. i now have 5.. but the 5th has only given me one egg.. and it's a pretty cream color...
the 4th that started laying is almost the same color as the brown in the basket, but it's bigger...

Yea, I have to admit my cuckoo marans' eggs are my favorite eggs so far but that may change next year once my ameraucanas start laying.

When my marans first started laying, the eggs were even darker, almost a chocolate brown. They were beautiful! But they lightened up as they got older. I love the color of that green egg you have there!

my cuckoo marans are only about 6 weeks old.... but hopefully by spring they will be laying.. i hope they're dark.. the marans thread said cuckoo are not the darkest layers to begin with.. and then add in that they're hatcheries... but we'll see.... i actually got them so that i could put the roo with that green egg layer to hatch some olive eggers...

maybe in the spring if you want to hatch some i can send some up that way...

That would be awesome! My cuckoo marans came from a hatchery too. Only one of them lays a fairly dark egg and you're right it's not as dark as some other marans' eggs I've seen but still very pretty. The other two lay a lighter freckled egg, one of them is almost as light as my BOs' eggs with just a hint of freckling! Still, they are wonderful gals. Very well behaved with a regal carriage. Not super friendly but never flighty. They will just cautiously walk around you rather than towards you. All my other gals lose it when I throw treats and look like clowns trying to rush to get to me but my cuckoos, although they will hurry over to me, still like to maintain that air of reserve. It's so funny!
They are my biggest bird though and the egg they lay is not quite as big as my RIRs or my BRs. It is a large egg but barely qualifies by weight as one, where my RIRs and BOs give me mostly extra large eggs with an occasional jumbo egg. I guess I feel like if I'm gonna feed such a large bird I should get a really big egg out of her!
But yes, I would love some green egg layers!

When I got her the lady said she was 6 mos. and I've had her a couple months now, so...she's probably 8 months. The other EE I got at the same time hasn't begun to lay yet. Everyday I hope for more.
