what kind of chicks are you looking for to replace the ones that you lost ? My daughter has a bunch that we have been raising to sell, I am also incubating right now but I don't have any room in the bator at the moment. You can get a LG one at the feed store for about 50-60.

Hmmm.... One little correction to my home location is needed. But then, of course, I've on occasion been accused of being "not all there" in an altered State.

Sunny: Honestly, never much thought about your name and weathery implications. I just liked it and think it's cute-n-cheerful. However, should you have a sibling named Stormy there might be deeper issues with your folks.....

I do have a sister named Sher! Sunny & Sher... But we came along before the singing duo. I'm sure if my parents had been able to foresee the future they wouldn't have given us those names. Actually my sister's name is Sharon and my legal name is Sonya but the only time my Mom used our legal names was when she was mad at us.

Oh, BTW, I fixed your listing in the OP. Anybody else?

Ok, so I found out that I live in a Medium Density neighborhood, that still means there isnt a cap on how many Chickens I can have!!!!!! As long as you properly get rid of the chicken waste. Im not sure about how many Roosters, I will just pretend they are considered"chickens"! I have Standard Frizzle Cochins in Blue,Black, and Splash on the way! I have been wanting some for a long time and just found a lady to sell me hatching eggs,12 of them. I will hopefully have a good hatch.I will only be keeping a handful for myself .So,PM me if you are interested in having a few of the chicks I hatch. The pictures of her Fizzles are the prettiest I have seen yet...

Day 18- LOCKDOWN
I wish I would have had more time to play with my temps this morning, but alas- I must work. When I left my humidity was 79 and one thermometer read 101 while the other read 99- so I'm hoping for a happy median there. Kept going back and forth and back and forth as to weather or not to use the carton during hatch or not. I went ahead and used the carton. Cut out four eggs holder spots, poked tons of holes in them and stuff, cut them down shorter... Etc. I hope I don't regret this method, I just ended up feeling more comfortable with it because that's how they've been this whole time.

Please send awesome vibes their way, I'll be devistated if any of them die during this last process. Is it common for chicks to die during hatch?

No! Stay positive! They need your positive energy. It's just that none of us can honestly say it doesn't happen or that it's uncommon. Your babies are healthy. Hopefully they will all make it!!!

Hi Again All!

I've been lurking lately, just haven't had much to chime in with.

~Congrats to Sunny on the new Grandbabies. How wonderfully exciting!

~Aubrey, sorry that your hatching experience is proving to be less than stellar...I'm crossing my fingers that these four little guys do well, and that you get a couple of showgirls out of the hatch! I'm looking forward to a happy ending and some pictures of adorable fuzzy-butts!

~Tumbleweed, sorry to hear of your loss. So glad to hear that your *favorite hen*made it through, though...That softens the blow just a smidge. Good luck finding some new chicks or hatching some of your own. It IS a good season to get fuzzy little replacements!

~GitLost, how does one determine the density of one's neighborhood? The lots in our neighborhood avg. between 1/4-1/2 acre...I'm guessing we're still high density, but I'd love to know where to check to find out for sure!

AFM, I think I posted a couple weeks ago that I was going to kick our babies (now 10 weeks old) out into the coop full-time...well, I'm a worrier, and couldn't bring myself to do it. Their 50 gallon Rubbermaid gets toted from the garage to the chicken run and back every day. I've decided it's good exercise for me

. They are growing SO fast, and our cute little cockeral has started making pitiful attempts at crowing this past week (he sounds almost like a dog yelping, lol).

I posted some pictures over on the "What breed or Gender" forum...Still trying to figure out how many pullets we've got (Genny, would you mind comparing my photos to the chickie siblings still at your house and giving me a guess?)

I'm super excited to report that my buff orp girl FINALLY started laying just shy of TEN months old...and she is laying really pretty almost pinkish-brown eggs. I'm a happy girl!

So, how much snow does everyone have? I'd guess 6-8 inches at our house this morning (SW Reno). Definitely enough to make me cringe at the thought of shoveling it...Oy, I want the Spring-time weather to come back!

Happy Friday to everyone!

~Stacy

Opps, let me try this again....I called Sparks Department of Community and Development with my Question"how many Chickens" and they asked for my Parcel Number (or address if you dont know your Parcel). They ran my address and let me know what I was allowed to have. Our hose is on .46 acre, with close neighbors on all sides.

LOL that's when I used to get the "long form" - including middle name - too! My sister still does that to me to this day!

Go to the county or city website - depending on whether you are in city limits or not - and they have zoning maps. At least they do in my county (=Lyon).
