Nevadans?

to a point yes... right now i'm not 100% sure who the dad id... i highly doubt it's my gimpy roo or the d'uccle roo though... soo probly ALL are easter eggers with the blue egg gene and should all lay some shade of green egg.... SHOULD.....

9 of them are the EE/leghorn mixes... i'll cross my fingers that they are as friendly as the last bunch...
18 are brown eggs... some will be all EE, some will be BR/EE and some RIR/EE
the leghorns i'm thinking should lay a light blue or green egg... we'll know a little more about what color dad is throwing into the mix pretty soon here... i expect their older sisters to be laying some time in march....
the brown eggs i'm expecting to lay light olive eggs.. and the greens... who knows... other than some shade of green or blue.. lol...
bud_kingston who hatched out some of my eggs in nov got an interesting looking bird.. he's going to try to get more pics of it when he's home again... head is all white, and the body is all red/brown... lol.. looks almost like a bald eagle.. lol...
i'm popping over to the genetcs threads too post a ? about egg colors before i forget to ask it...

Cool. I'm kind of excited about the thought of some new chickens. I now have 5 EE's that are laying ... 2 green, 2 cream, and one kinda pink one. I'm considering selling some of my hens that I don't really want to make room for some I really do ... like one of your EE/Leghorn mixes and an olive egger. Of the 4 three yr. old hens I have, my GLW is getting real red in the face and checking out the nests. Yay! I'm giving them through this month and getting rid of anyone not producing and a few I just don't care for...like my Lakenvelder, SLW, and Gold Comet for sure. Out with the old and in with the new, right?!?

lol.. yep.. the bad part is raising the chicks for 6 months before they start laying... lol....

i'm hoping to have dark olive eggers the hatch by... um... well hell, the boys are redy to go before the girls, so maybe within a month or 3 the boys will be ready to be penned off with the green egg girls.... but i spose i should keep a couple of the girls with the EE dad so i can keep getting regular green eggs too... hhmmm

so 2 cuckoo marans roos in a pen with 2 green egg ee's and 2 cuckoo marans hens?? i should get a wellsumer or 2 to put in that pen too...
hhmmmm

too many projects and not enough hardware cloth!!!!!!!!!

a friend showed me some really cool plans for a little quad pen made from PVC pipes, and it will be perfect for my banty pairs and trios...
that frees up 2 other pens for LF pairs and trios...

Oh ... if only I had more room ... the chickens I would have, the combos I would make, the eggs I would get. *sigh*

Hi laceynoelle! You're getting your's soon aren't you? I can't wait to see pics of them!

Evonne, what a cute pair those two are! At least I get to live vicariously thru you all 'til mine get here. For a few hours (depends on how fast Horsefeatherz wants her's) I get to have all 50 baby chicks to myself! Mama to 50 baby ameraucanas, how fun will that be! I'll take pics of them as soon as they get here. They are going to many folks here in Reno and in Calif.

ME TOO!!! DH says when we finally get a large enough piece of property he'll help me raise as many as I want!!! Oops, ok I'm dreaming. He wants me to keep it between a hundred or 2. I want a thousand or so...

Unfortunately since he does a lot of the heavy work, due to my traitor of a back, I guess I need to be considerate of his wants as well.

Wow, 50 - in your home -- seeing them at the feedstore in groups like that is impressive. A mass of chicks.

Awwwwww, they are sooooo cute!
If they get here when they are supposed to then by Thursday the 22nd would be best (although your 3 won't take much away from the experience). I want to start delivering them that weekend. That doesn't give me much time to play mama to them all but I'm sure everyone wants their babies while they're still babies. I'll send you a pm with the details.

DH won't know what to do with so many chickies to take care of! The brooder is not big enough for them all so some will have to camp out inside for a few days in a makeshift brooder with a warming light. Can't do this for very long as they start getting dusty after a few days.
