Nevadans?

You feed them to the chickens, they need the extra protein when they molt and there's not much in the ground in the Winter so you feed them worms.

Daniel - Genny got me started last September. I love the meal worms. They are now producing the 2nd generation. I'll be able to feed the chickens with them once the 3rd generation starts. I do feed them the dead stuff along with the dead beetles. I'm using the 3 drawer system and it's super easy.

That's a lot of grain and it makes wonderful bread too. I actually wouldn't mind using it for human consumption. I would put some in a tub that didn't get touched by the trailer or anything else and take it to bake with.

The worms though don't eat very much at all. They are on the same oats I started them with when I got them. But it does sound good if you use the huge tubs then you would need more grains for them.

Sorry about last night Lacey, it was date night with John. We did dinner and a movie last night all at home because we didn't want to go out out and it was so nice.

Oh my gosh Sunny, I have a bread machine I don't use anymore and it's yours. I make my own bread without the machine now. I've had it a long time but it don't look like it that's for sure. Just let me know.

Well I'm finally back on! The power went out last night about 10:30 and just came on again a little while ago. More than 14 hours without a computer!

I really need to come up with a backup plan as I don't even have heat or water when the power goes out.

I'm just hoping my freezer full of meat and my refrigerator full of food are still good.

Last I spoke to Nikki was on the phone back in November. I think she's gonna be focusing on herself and stuff from now on :/

14 hours!!! No heat, no water, no nothin'? That would truly stink! I hope you are able to salvage your food. Time for solar panels or a generator or somethng to at least plug in the fridge and a little electric heater. We need to do the same thing! We are in the same boat. Everything here is electric except the stove/oven.

Sheryl I'll pm you about the bread machine.

Cecelia I'm sendng you a pm too.

When we lived in California we always were getting power outages. Every single Christmas Eve we would get a power outage, it never failed, we lived there for 14 years and we would be wrapping presents in the dark with candles around here and there and the fire going.

Kim and the kids are saying they saw two transformers blow in our neighborhood last night and heard several others. Not sure just how many went. We didn't loose power for long but my daughter says lights where out all along Oddie Blvd. Nobody is sure if it was wind, rain or ???

Sometimes you just have to say, Hmmmmm.

peep_show: Chicky Update!!!

I think there are only 6 girls out of the 18 NYD hatch you gave me. Sheeesh! Only 2/7 Marans and 4/10 Salmon Faverolles. I think Token is a boy but Dad thinks its a girl. I have 2 boys (one of each) for my hatching egg "supplier" and am saving one of each for the son of a friend who is also interested. That leaves at least 9 boys unclaimed (not counting Token) so I found a person on Craigslist in St. George who has a lot of acreage and is interested in growing them out. He said the chicks they'd ordered and grown out are just starting to lay but he needed some boys as they free range all day. I'm so happy that I don't have to send any to chicky heaven and if I'm wrong and he gets some girls....that's just good karma at work.

QuinnieWynz and Kentdalimp!!! I love finding peeps in our neck of the woods! I think evonne may have some silkies....I know she doesn't get on here much anymore but I will call and see if she knows of any around here. I lurk here a lot. I don't contribute much but I do enjoy the company, information, great ideas, and occasional super silliness that is shared on this thread.
