French Black Copper Marans from Sunny.
That is what I thought, but wanted to be sure

That will be one BIG rooster! And a beauty I am sure!

I recently got into the golden cuckoo Marans. I joined the Marans thread here on BYC and PinkChick is being so helpful with teaching me what to look for in my chicks.

Here are some pictures of the two beautiful GCM rooster chicks that Kirstie gave me and one of the pullets I hatched from shipped eggs.

Younger rooster~ He will get more gold as he matures.

Older GCM rooster~

can anyone help me identify what could be wrong with one of my hens...she has a red scabby vent. She has a little white runny poo on her feathers on her butt. She doesn't seem to be sick or listless. She is fat and hasn't lost any weight.

She may have mites or lice. They chew on them back there and they get scabbed up. The wet poo may be from the heat. It has definitely warmed up around here.

We have looked and looked and can't find any lice/mites on her, but maybe it is the heat. Would that cause the white runny poo? My husband just told me she went normal this morning...so it is not always, just now and then.

Hey guys, I lost one of my darling EEs a week ago and I only have one other blue layer that is not laying right now. I really wanted to downsize my flock but my egg buyers really enjoy the colored eggs...
I am looking to buy a couple green/olive/blue layers and maybe a Marans or two. NO CHICKS. I do not have enough time to care for babies right now :(

Hey Guys,
Haven't posted in a while but I've been watching the thread and lurking. I was wondering if you guys have solutions for hot chickens. All three of mine are panting. They have access to a nipple waterer that I installed recently, but have not been drinking from it. They have access to a different water source, although not as clean since they keep kicking dirt into it and pooping in it

. HELP!

I give my flock all kinds of frozen fruit and yogurt on hot days. I just run leftover fruit through the blender and put it in ice cube trays, same with plain yogurt. I do the same thing for my dogs with the "Frosty Paws" recipe.

I like to wash down their run with cool hose water too, the pea gravel that's in mine can heat up quickly

I don't know that the heat and runny poops would give her scabs unless she is chapped. Lice are really hard to see as they move very very quickly away when the area is exposed to light. When I've found lice on my birds, they've usually been on the outside of the thigh in the thick feathers or under the wings. You have to have your eyes in focus already because they scoot!
