I wish i lived closer! A couple of hours I don't mind driving to pick up a few babies but 7 and a half hours (each way) is a long drive. Too bad they can't be shipped easily.

Oh well I shouldn't be thinking about any more anyway.

Oooooooo, let me know. It would sure help my addiction for a little while!

The chipmunk looking ones are speckled sussex. Out of the original 25 I only kept 6 for myself. 1 wht orp, 1 black australorp,1 blue cochin, 1 black/blue cochin, 1 buff orp, and 1 light brahma.

These are my first chickens, so I didnt want to over do it. After I ordered from the hatchery( which has a 25 chick minimum), I sold the rest to people on craigslist. They all came to pick up their chicks from my house within a few hours of me getting them. I was at the vassar st. post office on superbowl sunday at 10 in the morning to get the chicks. Funny thing, there were 4 other people picking up chicks too! I thought Id be the only one!

That's awesome! I didn't know we had so many chicken people in Reno. Gitlost do you live in that zip code area or will I have to go to the Vassar Post office to pick up my chicks as well? On the one hand I'd rather pick them up quicker so they are not sitting in the truck (or on the warehouse dock) any longer than they have to but on the other hand it sure would be easier to pick them up from my local Post Office which is easier to get to and MUCH easier to get in and out of! I hate the Vassar branch.

The problem is that the hatcheries want to send them in groups of 25 (50, 75...) so that there are enough chicks in each box to keep them all warm but not so many that they trample each other and unless you have room for that many then you pretty much have to sell the extras or get others to go in on the order from the get go.
My Pet Chicken sells them in groups of 3 or 6 (if Bantams) but the shipping for so few birds is so high it still makes sense to split the costs with others! I know I went on today because I wanted a couple of welsummers and a couple of EEs but I changed my mind when I saw the shipping costs.
