I didn't even notice! 1,000 + posts! Wow. That's pretty cool! Yea, um... no. No night life here unless you count the senior dances we go to and even they give us a hard time when we leave early. We are the youngsters in the group and they always say "It's always the young ones that peter out first"!

DH gets up at 4am to get to work and by 10:30pm he's pretty pooped! Me, I just don't sleep much. Would LOVE to but my brain won't ever shut up.
Anybody know the secret for falling asleep easily you let me know! I've tried all the normal things (whole grains, hot milk, chamomile tea, exercise 3 hours before bedtime, relaxing your body from toes on up, counting etc, etc, etc.) Any new ideas gladly accepted!

DH says I must have been a sentry in my past life 'cause every little thing keeps me up or wakes me up at the drop of a hat (actually it's often the drop of a book since reading puts me to sleep but when I drop the book, poof, I'm wide awake again).

Made it real hard for my kids to get away with anything though, when they were teens!

Congrats everybody on your hatches and chicks!!! That's sooo exciting!

Kelseygirl thanks for the link. That would make a great coop. Just needs a power wash and some new paint + modifications, of course. If I had room I'd grab it. Anyone else need a second coop?

Hey, SunnyD, my brain tends to grind, too! But it happens when I wake up (planned or not) and try to fall back to sleep in that middle layer of consciousness....if a thought starts to percolate, it's almost as if an engine were warming up and revving....once it starts, I've got to get up because it won't stop....full tilt boogie.

Anyway, falling asleep is no problem for me.... My secret? Relax your tongue. Seriously. Empty your mind, relax your tongue and just focus on the breathing in and out and banish any little thought germs that try to spring up. DH is peeved with me because I can be out snoring in two minutes. It works! (And way more healthier than the shot of cough syrup my sister employs.... Nyquil, the housewife's narcotic.....)

Hatch update:

It is Day 21 and I have 5 Star eggs that haven't hatched....probably the red females I was looking forward to. I hope they're just being slow, but I did have 4 eggs that I had questions about going into lockdown...movement, but kinda funky air cells.

Heading to the brooder: 3 gnarly BSL females (big bruiser gals), 1 RSL male, lots o' BSL males. Of the 8 SLW eggs, 7 have hatched and the solo remaining one has a pip on the side.

So that's 17 out of 22 shipped eggs that have done more than expected. I am pretty okay with that!

Whoo hoo!!! How exciting! Ah the benefits of sex-links... still sounds wierd though when one knows what gender they are when going into the brooder.
lol.png
Now what we need is a sex-link egg! Then we would only hatch the eggs we wanted.

Thanks for the sleeping trick. I'll try it tonight. I actually slept a full night last night!!!
wee.gif

Unheard of for me! Even when my grown son called me at 2am and woke me out of a delicious sound sleep last night (bad dream about his grandpa/my Dad), I was able to get back to sleep almost right away!!!
But I know how your DH feels, mine falls asleep in seconds from the time his head touches the pillow, sometimes in the middle of my sentence. If I wake him back up to complain he just says it's because my voice is so wonderfully soothing that it lulls him right to sleep!
lol.png
I swear, who could stay irritated at that!? He should give lessons.

Good luck on the rest of the eggs. Though you are right, that is a great hatch already on shipped eggs! Still I'd give them an extra couple of days.

Congrats Peep_Show and Humbrd! That's gonna be me this weekend. Yay!!! I lockdown on the 19th. So excited cuz I got some BCM and Wellies in there!

SunnyDawn, I suggest an mp3 player or iPod with downloaded audio book files. There are so many good books available to download at the library. My brother hasn't picked up a book to read in years and I finally just got him listening a few months ago. He loves it cuz he commutes a ton so he burns through the books as he drives. In your case you could put in the earbuds and close your eyes.. just think of the exciting dreams you could have!!!
lol.png
Me? I'm like your husband, I can fall asleep anywhere, anytime...in seconds flat.

Sunny do you want to go to a concert? the orch dorks have a concert comin uo, just regular for spring and everythign, so no tickets or blastphemy like that. its sometime later in the month, but im not gonna lie, i think like half of the songs kinda suckkk. we're doing one of those terrible 80's disco songs. oh, and if anym=one likes 80's disco songs....well stuff happens i guess we cans till be friends. anyway if anyones interested in that i'll get info up, it'll be fun.
buh bye!!

If you like 80's music, come to Las Vegas! It's where the band members reunite for a last shot at posterity and perform..... Kind of creepy to see 60 and 70 y.o. guys warbling about hot chicks and whatnot that was the subject matter of their 80's hits... But, I swear, if you like the 80's music, it's playing in all of our stores (appealing to all the Baby Boomers retired here...you haven't lived until Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is considered TJ's muzak) and BIG HAIR still lives.

I am so upset--- This morning I went to BigR to confirm that the shipment of BR pullets will be arriving next week and I was told that they'll no longer be selling chicks.
hit.gif

Do any of you know of a breeder in North NV who sells BR or Red Star pullets? I checked Craigs List and the local message boards...none available.
sad.png
Or, can you recommend an online breeder who will sell a small order of 8 pullets?

Thanks!
~Margie

awww sorry bout that.... i can't help right now, and i'm not sure if you want to hatch or not, but i'm hoping to have cinnamon queens available in the fall.... between now and then i'll look into what's involved in shipping them and if my local PO here will even ship them out from here or if i'd have to drive in to vegas for it....
did you try posting a "looking for" add on craig's list?? sometimes people just don't advertise but if they see someone's looking they'll contact you... it's worth a shot at least...

speaking of craigs list... i know i probly wont get any takers, but anyone want a couple roosters?? lol....
i need to get rid of my excess roos.....

Thanks Evonne for your reply! I'm not set up for hatching, so I'll either take your suggestion and place an ad on Craigs or order online.
I was just looking at the MPC site and they can ship 8 chicks to me on June 14th ($31 express shipping). If I do mail order, I'll be getting the stars--- I believe they can be sexed with better accuracy than the BR's.

Hope you find a home for your roos! ~Margie
