Nevadans?

Okey-dokey... Final count and tally!

In the 20+ y.o. still-air LG 18 of 22 lockdown shipped eggs hatched, so a 90% fertility rate and 82% hatch rate. Eggs arrived on Thursday and Monday (grrr), so had to store the SLW's a bit over the weekend. I am amazed they all hatched out within 24 hours considering who knows how long and old these eggs were.

8 SLW chicks, 5 BSL Star females, 4 BSL Star males, 1 RSL Star male. ..... (C'mon...you can pick him out!)

The 4 that quit were 3 RSL males and 1 BSL female, three fully developed but probably died at pipping (drowned) due to crazy bad air cells (most likely detached shipping damage) and one kind of soupy one that looked to be about Day 17. Didn't get a single Red Star female out of the batch. Must be a hard-to-come-by year for them!

Congrats Peep Show. But taking a closer look that seems suspiciously like a basket full of trouble disguised in fluff. watch yourself. they are likely to just take over. Have you running here and running there jumping at their every pip and squeak. Saving the choicest bits of lettuce just for them. not that I've ever done any of that. nope not me.

aawwwww look at my babies there... can't wait to get them ... well i can, but i'm excited... lol.. i'm so glad this worked out and we're crossing our fingers that 6 of those slw are girls.... i want 1 or 2 roo so i can breed a few pure to replace the girls as needed ya know... lol..

those are the SLW that will be the mommas of the cinnamon queens i'll be breeding for.... so keep me in mind you guys... hopefully they will be ready by fall.... and hens hatched in fall should be laying by late spring.....

that really is a cute assortment of chicks thoguh... the one lone white one in there... maybe i'll have to take him.... if he hasn't met dum de dum yet.... lol... maybe he'll grow up and be a gentleman to my food egg flock.... these roos i have no have all my girls barebacked and bald.... poor girls.... i'm going to go post them on craig's list right now i think... well i need pics first....

I was setting in the shop just watching my 5 week old chicks yesterday. they will be 6 weeks on Thursday. the Silver Sebright bantam (Monster) I think is a Rooster. I have recognized that my adult Serama Rosster will call the Hen any time he finds something good to eat. While setting there I tossed a little treat to the Sebright and he made that little warble noise. the other two came running. so much for sneaking something special to him I guess. Otherwise he pretty much lives up to his name. He is funny as all get out. he acts all brave about any noise and heads out to find out what it was. but if he actually finds anything that is alive and moving he comes running back to me to save him. Forgets all about the girls, doesn't give them any sort of warning. I think he has already figured out that if the bad stuff gets them he has more time to escape.

Evonne.... You crack me up!

No, the lone RSL male hasn't dum dee dum dum'd yet....nor have any of the other BSL males. But I can see you'd be dangerous to take to the feed store on Chick Days!

Nothing's happening to the boy-boys at the present moment... I have City company coming in for the weekend that specifically asked to play with the chicks, so the more the merrier. Fate will be decided after your pick up. (He is a cutie, though!) And still waiting to hear back from my brother-in-law on whether he wants the BSL females.....

Update:

Brother-in-law saw the pic... Wants 'em... or, at least, some of them.

lol.. such a cute story.... bantam roosters are just funny all around....

my ee roo is a pig.... he never calls the girls over for treats....he's a me me me kinda guy... but i'm really thinking he's on his way out anyway.....
i have one of his sons that actually watches out for the girls and calls them to food, but he's not as nice with the mating as his dad was so he's on his way out too....

are you guys sure you don't need some roosters???
chicken and dumplings for dinner???

Thanks Lacey but DH and I are booked up for the next 6 weekends! I don't know how that happened!!! We have been invited to several dances and are even going to attempt camping again + the usual! Used to love camping but my back surgery really put a crimp in our "roughing it". So this time it won't be so rough since we are taking a blowup bed and pillows and a tent that DH can put up himself and tall enough that we can stand up in it.

We are really looking foward to it.

Congrats Peeps! Congrats Evonne!

Nevada Desert Chick try Greens Feed or Reno Rock and Feed if you're heading into Reno in the near future. Greens Feed will order just about anything for you if it's not past their season already and Reno Rock and Feed usually has birds left over even late into the season since most folks buy from other feed stores (they know nothing about chickens but if you don't need advice and you know what your looking for it's fine). I got BRs from them a year ago.

Peeps, Congratulations! Your babies are adorable

Thanks Sunny for the local chick supplier recommendations. Yesterday I ordered 8 Stars through MPC and I'll be receiving them next Thurs or Friday. When the time comes to add to my flock, I will certainly check out Greens and Reno Rock. Although I very seldom drive to Reno, it would be more cost effective compared to the $31 shipping charge!

Yea, that shipping charge really shocked me too. That's why when I sell birds now it has to be local. The post office wants an arm and a leg in shipping fees for live birds!

Congrats everyone with all the hatching going on

I am happy to be down to 14 chicks in the house and 20 in the garage

Nothing in the incubator, but have a broody with 4 chicks, a broody hatching as of yesterday/today and another broody setting on 15 eggs. Two ducks with ducklings (6 and 8) and two ducks setting on eggs - my duck population doubled with these hatches

- I think I am going an itty, bitty bit crazy
