Lol. I don't have to lie when I say no, no stomach ache with this bug. Just a cough and an irritated throat. I actually feel fine today so the bug wasn't really that bad. Not bad enough to put me down in bed but irritating enough to get on my nerves. Our "adopted" son (not really but we took him in when his Mom threw him out when he was 17) had non-stop sneezing for a couple of hours and some sinus pressure but that was about it. He got the heavy tired feeling too for a couple of days before the sneezing started.

Stomach-aches are usually related to what we eat or stress (according to my doctor) but I still swear there is such a thing as stomach flu.

Hope everybody had a great Memorial day today! I love this holiday. A time set aside just to remember those that have given so much and are no longer with us but are never forgotten.

oh oh oh... i just remembered... DUH!!! the people i got my black silkie from... they don't have an add on craig's list for them right now, but they almost always have some for sale.. they may be chicks may be adults...
the ladies name is Delores, i met her at a CLUCK event.. a chicken group that's trying to get it's feet under it.. here's a link to one of her craig's list adds.... give her a call and ask what she might have available ( i don't think she sexes chicks though)
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/grd/1766783458.html

I'll give her a call. I'm just looking for chicks right now. I've been curious about the CLUCK group. I almost went on the coop tour, but had something else come up. I'm kind of familiar with Leslie Doyle because she's usually a tester for Organic Gardening Magazine for the Las Vegas area. I haven't met her or been to her place. It would be nice if the group got going, especially for newbies like me.

Thanks!

she's really nice.. and she's got the experience to run the group, from all her gardening things she does, she just has no chicken experience.. but she can learn... just like we all do...
i think i've learned a lot on the year i've had mine... more than people who've had them a long time... lol.. but i want to learn...
if she does another coop tour next year, i might volunteer to be a stop if anyone wants to make the drive... but once i get these cinnamon queens to breeding age i'll be able to offer sexlink chicks for sale through her email, i think that will go over well...

if you get a chance to meet leslie, and she still has barred rocks in her coop, those were mine.. lol.. i want her back yard...

i'll keep an eye on the feed store out here... PM me a number i can reach you at, if i'm down there, they will actually hold chicks for a day or two and i can call you and say they have this and this... and you can say have them hold that.... living in a small town is great...

granted, i put 5 silkies on hold a few weeks ago.. hubby stopped to pick them up on his way home, and the box had 5 silkies 3 chukar and 3 pheasants in it when he got home.. lol..

Evonne your hubby sounds like mine! People keep acting like He's so long suffering, putting up with me and my chickens but he is actually just as tickled with them as I am and is a total enabler.

I'll have to check out her backyard! I need to get on her email list when she gets the CLUCK group going again. I finally made it to Logandale for this years fair and it seemed like a nice quiet place. Now, did the store put those extras in or did your hubby sneak them in?

and I hope everyone's weekend was wonderful. Was great up this away - weather was nice and ok, but DH was home for a couple days

Any ONE - ANY one - want some pidgeons? I am not sure where they are coming from, but the flock that flocks to my house is rapidly increasing. Most are not banded - but yesterday I did see a triple banded bird. One of my sweet neighbors has stated that they (persons unknown) are trapping the pidgeons in Silver Knolls and relocating them to this end of the road
hu.gif
I am not sure, but two years ago there were NO pidgeons - not one in this area - now there are over 25. They eat as much as my chickens and really seem to love my chicken food

- there are so many "hanging out here" that one neighbor asked if I had started raising them

Penturner this past winter I used a radiator type oil filled heater in the coop. Worked very well, just took up space and I was always picking chickens off the heater (cannot blame them, warm toes are always nice). I used the radiator type because I did not want an "open" heat source in the coop (with all the shaving dust and all) plus wanted to be sure it would not start a fire if the birds tipped it over (they never did - I set it up on a crate so it was not nestled in the shavings).

Don't you hate the super short growing season here? Hoping that now I can finally leave my tomato plants out for the rest of the season. Wouldn't that be nice!?
