Aubrey, i was thinking about doing that for people 'cause theres a lot who ask for pullets, but mine are still babies themselves.

Urg. lastly, does anyone have a large younger rooster they dont want, in the reno area? I have a couple banties, but i guess my dad wants a standard one. But this isnt a life or death situation, so if we cant come up with one ill use my neighbors rooster as stud. hahahaha

Thanks so much all ya'll for the sympathy, support, and great advice! When my sister informed the original owner she said that they (Jean and Buffy) had lived nice long lives. What? I thought they were almost 2 yrs old...turns out they were almost 5!!! Crazy! That means the SS was a WAY better hen than I ever gave her credit for! She was laying almost 20 eggs a month. NICE! So now I don't feel nearly as guilty as I did, I mean, maybe it was age AND heat, not just heat and a loser owner who didn't do enough to make sure she was comfortable.

On a lighter, happier note! I brought home 3 of evonnes EE's and 4 just hatched chicks from Ke_ben!!! Thanks so much you two for brightening my day!

laceynoelle I have roos - from almost a year on down to as young as 7ish weeks. I have an Orpington/Cochin cross who is a very sweet bird - he was hatched in October. He lives in my bachelor pen with Gumpers (splash Orp Roo - also for sale but I am asking $40.00 for him) and Marilyn - my Orp/EE cross - who is not for sale.

SunnyDawn Yesterday I found a soft pullet egg under one of the Orp/Del crosses who is the same age as yours! I feed the entire group (geese, ducks and chickens) Flock Raiser and I mix my own scratch (safflower, black oil sunflower, white wheat, oats and prose millet). Free choice oyster shells (I go thru ALOT of oyster shells plus feed back eggshells). I feel the chickens get enough corn in the flock raiser so I do not add it to their scratch. They also get household scraps (including meat).

This little chunk is Obby's first son - Sunny. Was a surprise as I did not think I had set any of her eggs but one slipped by me into the bator. He is a TANK - and growing much faster than most of my mixes. Yummy, might call him BBQ.

Just a reminder - now that the weather has warmed up like it should - be on the look out for snakes. Found this little one yesterday - chicks were lined up watching it slither along. Trapped under a bucket and relocated to the edge of the property this morning.

So one of yours is laying too? That is soooo early! I think you may have to market these babies as a new, super efficient cross! Not only are they gorgeous but they mature really, really early!!! My gals are growing up to be so pretty! Seriously, a friend of mine came over yesterday and of all my different breeds she thought the Orp/Del crosses were the prettiest of all and I had to agree!
