Nevadans?

This isn't related to 'bater construction but my DIY mantra has always been "you can never have enough duct tape, gorilla glue, extension cords, and bungies!"

Peepshow: We chose to live in Boulder City to avoid the HOA debacle. We have nice neighborhoods, nice neighbors, and a nice town...all without the "leadership" of the beloved HOA's.

Our girls put themselves to sleep in their coop for the first time tonight after a day of free ranging. The dogs didn't get eaten by one of them, so they must have come to some mutual agreement. Now that they can tuck themselves in (and even get on their roost without help) I guess they don't need me anymore.

They do greet me when I come home from work, though.

This chicken thing was my wife's idea, yet I am the one who did the research, built the coop, raised the girls, woke them up, put them to bed, and got on this site each night! ...funny how life works out, eh?

lol bouldercityfowl, thank your wife.

i like the list. lol mine inclues zipties, and tire irons for when it gets frusterating.
I think im going to build an incubator as well, but idk when. i think ill just wait and get ideas off of everyone here, you guys have genius ideas. Ive never lived in a hoa, but they really seem to suck.

lol bouldercityfoul! i THOUGHT my boyfriend wanted chickens as he tossed arounf the "fresh eggs" idea a million times, turns out im the one who bought em and did the research so now i hfta do the cleanin' an' the feeding an' the loving etc. and im perfectly okay with that

Well, I live in a HOA. Never, never, ever thought I would. But read thru the by-laws and actually agreed with them. So we purchased our place. By-laws here keep people from dividing their lots into smaller chunks, helps keep the property "cleaner" looking (yes we all have the out back pile - but they are more controlled? - nicer looking junk?
idunno.gif
), helps take care of our roads and started the neighborhood watch. Rancho Haven and Sierra Ranchos (my 'hood) are HOA, just most people do not realize it - alot of people think that Sierra Ranchos is part of Rancho Haven - that is our own little cross to bear

SparksNV - After our pm last night, I thought I was so very clever. I gathered your 7 up and put them in my hay shed - figured they can start bonding as a flock, plus to put them out in a run I have to pick them up and carry them (so it would get them more adjusted to being handled). This morning I carried them by 2s and one single to the run - so 7 chicks in with a set of my MF Cochins. I come back from around the house and there are only 6 chicks
barnie.gif
Just as I finish counting - to be sure - over my foot runs the "missing" chick (I am free she yelled - I am sure of it
wee.gif
)
big_smile.png
Smart girl, just jumped the 3 foot and went back to freeranging in the yard.
tongue2.gif
So I will catch her back up tonight and put her back with "her" flock.

You may have a problem solver on your hands.

Ha ha ha ha ha! Been laughing my way throught the last few pages of posts. I think the only funny Nevadans are on his thread...
gig.gif
JK I'm sure there are a few more somewhere, they just don't live close to me. Don't get me wrong they're sweet folk, they just don't seem to get the notion. I'm forever saying "I'm joking!!!".

Ke-ben, Lacey, Peep-Show and Bloomie thanks for all the great advice, I appreciate it very much.

BoulderCityFoul I think we are of like minds. I have plenty of all those items!

Genny, Honker is walking around today like she's always been here! Gone is the trepidation she felt the last 2 days with me. She is already running toward me when I come out the door (she's not gonna be denied treats). She's like my kids when they were little. Folks used to say "Oh they're shy!" and I would respond, "enjoy it while you can it won't last"!
roll.png

On another note, Sweet Cheeks laid her first egg today (EExOrp you hatched)!!! It's brown and perfectly shaped! It's pullet tiny but she thinks it's absolute perfection!
lau.gif

I'm not about to tell her I was hoping for a green egg, she is sooo proud.

Where's Humbrd? Haven't seen her post for awhile. Hope all is well up your way!

Evonne where are the pics you were gonna post? You tantalize us with descriptions of all these interesting babies and then... nothing!
idunno.gif

You know what a pic addict I am! Especially of babies.

We do have fantastic people

That is great, both that Honkers (
lau.gif
) is happy in green chicken heaven and that SC is laying (prolly just a regular light brown? any hint of pink?). It is amazing what makes them proud - the Orp/cochin from Honkers hatch was all proud and loud about setting in the nest box today. Practicing and she is hollering about it...........just like her mama (guess she is not a city chicken).

Least Sweet Cheeks produced something to be proud of.

I will try and get more pictures up on Monday or so - update my Ameraucanas (Sunny, my blk cockerel - HR is starting to get his saddle feathers, almost overnight it seems they are an inch long. Flrpl is finally getting tail feathers - but from the bottom up - so far two on each side, bottom of his tail
hu.gif
They are so tiny compared to the others )., the MF cochins (and show my new ones - one of whom has gone broody
jumpy.gif
-

Love to see pictures of everyones birds

HorseFeatherz this is the roo I like. It would be great if you could hold him for me for a couple of weeks!

Didn't you say you might be interested in some of those Siberian Elms? I've got dozens of small ones - these are the ones I usually pull up every year. Anywhere there is semi-regular water they will sprout.
roll.png
I'll take a picture of the one I was telling you about that had been cut down (~4 years ago) and post it so you can see how big it has gotten in such a short time - about 20 feet or so now.

Yeah I can't wait on the bacon, chops, ham, pork shoulder...

You get the idea! I'm thinking they aren't going to make the move with me, at least not in their present form.
cool.png
You're correct - BSL= Black Sex Links. They have pretty coloring too so it might make for some interesting offspring!

That's some incubator!!!!
Are you going to start a chicken ranch on that land
lol.png
????

No Bloomie, that's a little too ambitious for me.
wink.png
Though with all the talk of HOAs - I just got a copy of the CC&Rs for my new place and it says no commercial poultry operations on lots less than 5 acres - so I'm in the clear if ambition does strike me! Now if I had 60 acres like you... There'd be more hogs and even a couple of cows!

That's what I'm wondering ke_ben - somebody here should have snapped it up. Penturner?

Isn't he a beauty!!! That's one of the boys I partially raised. Boy looking at him now makes me really wish I didn't live in the city! He's gorgeous!!!

Lacey you are absolutely right! I'd really like to see how everyone's flock is doing! I'll try to get some pics in a couple of days. Tomorrow is already booked. I'm singing for the folks at my parent's retirement complex. I sure hope your teeth feel better soon! That kind of pain can mean your filling has cracked and you've got problems developing. Unless they are new fillings. In that case, well, you've just got to get used to them.
hmm.png

Yes Genny, you guessed it! It's a normal Orp brown egg. It's peewee size but perfect! She was strutting around for so long, so proud of herself, that the other gals got a little tired of it and put her in her place again. I felt bad for her but I know it's normal.
sad.png
I guess they didn't understand her being so proud when they do it most everyday.
roll.png
I was awfully proud of her too. The first egg is always so special.
I can't wait to see pics of your Black Am cockerel. I want to compare it to mine.
