Deagorn, could you pleease give me some tips on taking pictures? I want to be a photographer, but I still need a lot of work. Everyone here is kinda been giving contructive criticism, and peturner's gonna give me some lighting tips.

Uh oh! The last couple of mornings, our silkie has been barking at the sun, or clucking, or crowing, or whatever it's called. At any rate, is that the most telling sign that she is a he?
If so, I have a free silkie to give away!

Sometimes a hen will make an almost crow like sound. Especially if she is dominant. I brought another roo home a couple of days ago and OOOH boy! The roos started fighting and my dominant hen who has always ruled with a minimum of fuss let out a loud crow-like holler and launched herself, full throttle, between those two roos! She was irate and she let them know in no uncertain terms that she is the dominate bird in this flock! The roos walked away looking very chagrined.

I would wait a while before deciding if it is a roo or not. Hopefully there's still a chance it's just a loud pullet.

It might be a roo.

My silkies roos had straight tails, while the hens had little puffs, like a bunny tail. It looks like he has a staight tail, but im also really new at silkies.

Sunny, Havn't you figured out that the boys are nothing but trouble by now? I was going to say some wise crack about you being all dressed up the other day but decided you looked to nice to do that. Thanks for your thoughts for Dad, and everyone else also. He is doing very well and is supposed to be released from the hospital tomorrow. There is just a little damage to one valve of his heart and they expect that to heal on it's own.

I can tell how little I have been able to check in here lately. Hello to the new folks. Nice to have you around.

Penturner, great to hear that your Dad is doing so well!

Hey, just curious, are the rest of you getting a ton of requests for eggs since this recall scare? I'm getting inundated with requests for eggs and I can't keep up! I've been avoiding doing my normal amount of baking 'cause I feel bad when I have to keep saying "Sorry, I'm all out"! Plus, with the heat, my gals aren't laying like they should and I don't have as many eggs as usual! Hopefully with the expected cool-down this weekend they will start laying more!

Before most of the nieghbors seemed to feel that my homegrown eggs were inferior, somehow, to store bought eggs.

Not any more!

Oh yeah Sunny!! My neighbors asked to buy some eggs, and I told them my girls werent laying yet. I didnt think anything of it.

Echetino, I saw your roo on craigslist, lol if anyone calls tell them i have one too, same exact thing. Jerk silkies, keep turning up as man chickens.

Lacy – I think this cockerel would do well with your new roo. He is young, hatched April 10th, and he does get handled every night. He is not puppy dog friendly but does allow me to pick him up. He is toward the bottom of the pecking order and submissive. He will look like Marilyn when grown – blue with some red leakage on his hackles and wings/shoulders. He has a pea comb – not tight because he is ½ orp, but he does have a beard and muff. (The cockerel pictured below is also available – he is a blue barred Orp/BR cross – hatched April 28th)

Sunny – here is Obby’s oldest. The leg leaning, foot standing cockerel – he is getting some interesting feathers starting to come in. The wind was really pushing him around. Ooops - had a message from Fran on the machine when I got home - we forgot our lunch
