I think you guys in Reno and LV areas are being exploited...usually here in the supermarkets (Albertsons, Raleys, Smiths) we can get regular eggs for 1$ maybe 1.50$...that's why we have to charge so little. Some of my friends are even trying to get me down from 2 to 1.50...No way!
I would really be interested to hear if anyone has ever hatched twins...I fear I didn't take enough animal science ag classes when I was in college..course I never ever thought I would be raising chickens in Elko!
To all you newbies...(that includes me) welcome!!! this is the best place to be and I have learned so much it's amazing.l I have a feeling that special people are on here...restores my faith in humankindness:frow

Ive read of a few people hatching twins, but you usually have to help them along because there isnt enough room for them in the egg. And yes, you can sometimes get eggs for less than a buck if they are on sale around here, and its nothing odd to see that.

I just did chicken math ...
Right now I have a total of 18 chickens

I have 6 Buff Orpington little pullets -- but they are not anywhere near laying
4 others that are not laying yet either ...
2 that look huge and should be laying == but ! They aren't
5 chick chicks that wont lay until the spring i'm sure.
1 Buff Roo

2 eggs that are to hatch towards the end of the week ..
and another dozen that are looking fantastic in the homeade bator that should hatch out in 3 more weeks.

so by my chicken math ... I don't have any chickens at all !!!!!!!!!!!

However my husband finally said no more. Yet he wants to trade the pig for a goat right now. lol. I think I am rubbing off on him.

I've been waiting for someone to notice the change in my signature line. My two pigs (actually, hogs - they were over 200 lbs. each!) went to the processor a week ago Monday. I should be getting them back any day now. Can't wait!

Not a pork eater here but darn that is a lot of meat! Congrats on the haul. If there was not a zoning ordinance against having a cow on less than 1/2 acre I would have a cow here. Good for dairy and meat for their calf once a year. Mmmm.... darn Washoe County zoning!
