What were you all doing out this way? I'm way out east on Hwy 50, just before you go up the hill to Stagecoach. Did you make it that far?

No. We went to Virginia City and then went down to 50 and our friends wanted to see where 50 went the other direction but by the time we got to Dayton they decided to turn around and head over to Carson instead. I've been to Stagecoach before though. To pick up baby chicks. Been to Dayton a few times for work.

I'm feeling a lot better already! Went to Virginia City yesterday and I walked almost the whole time (without hunching over).

Feels good to be getting around so well these days.
Are you going to Cheryl's house for the swap? Just don't bring any of your birds, she had a Mareks breakout on her property before (that was why we didn't have the summer one at her house). Also you'll need to wash your shoes off before you head out to your coop, when you return from the party, so you don't infect your flock. Unless they've all been immunized for mareks (Clyde has been immunized for mareks and most hatchery/feed store birds are automatically immunized). Not all of my birds have been immunized so I am not going, though I feel fine to travel now (maybe I'm just being paranoid) but I hope you have a good time! Tell everyone I said "Hi" and I'll come to the next one. Well, unless the same issue comes up at the next meetup.

I've been very lucky and have a very healthy flock but I am kinda obsessive about the exposure thing. It's the same reason I won't ever show my birds!

I have enough problems with dogs and racoons. OK, I'll shutup now before I ruin your good time. Seriously, just washing your shoes off when you get back should take care of any problems.

Aubrey, finally!

Judging by the pics, neither one is from the Del (Del eggs are light brown). They look almost white or is that the flash? Anyway, congrats!!! That is sooo exciting!

sunny they were both light brown, they certainly werent white, but pretty light brown. they were the exact same size and color. i was thinking it was the del and the nhr since they have the biggest comb and wattles, but my br started squatting this week too, so who knows? i have no clue how to find out either!

My BR eggs always had a slightly pinkish cast to the brown but they are close in color so your guess is as good as mine! Still super, super exciting!!!

Both my other Dels (your Del's hatchmates) are laying now (though I've only had 2 from the littlest Del). I'm still waiting on eggs from my Ameraucanas though...

I am not sure this is true Sunny. I asked at Greens about mareks and they do not vaccinate (due to the extra expense), but I was told they must buy from an NPIP hatchery. And FYI, there are NO NPIP chicken flocks within the state of NV. NV does NO testing here, should anyone want to, it is all sent to up to Washington state to be tested. Costs almost $5.00 per bird for testing. I was told by the NV state vet, that most "problems" seem to crop up first with the Cock fighting community and then spreads (atleast in this state, as we have no commercial chicken farms) - she asked me if I had many of the fighters around me

Sunny...you are welcome any time, I might want to buy a bird or two if you got one.

Lisa
I don't have extras now but I will have pure-bred black Ameraucanas in early spring of 2011. You would be an easy stop.

That sounds really cool!

OH! Good to know. I was going off of what a huge feed store in California told me when I raised chickens there. I assumed it was the same here but that does explain why chicks are so much cheaper here in NV.

Daegorn, I'll put you down for 2 Ams then for our spring run down south.
