Howdy All! Oh boy it took me almost 2 hours to catch up on the posts. We got hit hard with the cold bug over here.
sicksmiley5.gif
The boys got sick the day before my IL's showed up and then DH and I started getting sick on Monday. We are still not completely over it, my youngest is feeling a lot better than the rest of us which is a good sign that the end is in sight.

Can you believe this weather? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the snow, I just wish I was not sick so that I could totally enjoy it. This is what it looks like out my back door this morning:

02202011-first-big-snow-for-chickens-001sm.jpg

I shoveled out around the chicken coop yesterday and sprinkled a layer of hay over the ground so my babies could walk around without sinking in mud and burying themselves in the snow. We had a good 10 inches out there yesterday but quite a bit melted off during the afternoon before it started snowing again last night.

Once I shoveled off the ramp leading from the chicken door down to the ground they were fine with the snow. I think with the snow on there it was invisible to them.

As you can see from this picture, the snow has not really slowed them down from exploring at all.

Well I hope everyone is doing well and hopefully things will get back to normal around here soon.

SunnyDawn: I love my nick names! you pic.

I spent the morning getting Rion's rabbit back in his house! He lives in the barn with the chickens. Well he figured out a way out and I saw him out running around the yard this am. I found him in the bar with the hay.

It took me a while to catch up with all the posting too!
Hi to all!

We got a bit of rain but a friend sent me the best set of pics from Lead, North Dakota! The snow is up to the roof of a two story house!

Cool. See you soon!

okay guys, im on day 20...should something be happening yet? chirping? pipping? or does that not usually START until day 21?

Yeah!!! They're almost here!

Sunny: Related to engineers, but not one myself. However, I did take a few math courses in college, ergo the binary and -- when really pressed -- odds making (funny how I ended up in Vegas anyway, eh?).

lol.png
Hi Dee! I can relate. My degree is with an emphasis in math and I still play the Lotto every now and then!
lol.png
I know it's ridiculous but the fantasy alone is worth a couple bucks to me. I do have fun dreaming about what I would spend my money on. I used to tell my Hubby that the only other man I ever fantasized about was Ed Mc Mahon!
lau.gif
But now I've switched to the Lottery dream. I don't spend much on it. I'm not that removed from reality. I never hit the casinos though. Too easy to keep going and going. I like picking up a couple tickets and waiting for the results. Sometimes when it's way the heck up there (usually when I give in and buy tickets) and I hear that somebody won it, I'll wait a couple of weeks to check them just to keep the fantasy alive.
roll.png

Boy all that talk of sunset colored hair makes me think how pretty that would be! I used to color my hair a super deep rich red. I mean you could spot me a mile away! Made me look like a ghost but I loved how it made me feel! IDK, more powerful or something. My natural color is called "dishwater blonde" which makes me want to gag! Who comes up with these names? I wouldn't throw grizzled dead rat out there, it might catch on! Next thing you know you'll be hearing it on comercials for hair color!
gig.gif
Ok, now what do we use for a nickname them? Reporter extraordinaire? Hmmm there's gotta be something a lot better than that!

What a nice chicken mom Eglyntine! I brushed off the ramp but that was all.
smile.png
Love seeing pics, thanks for posting them! I hope you all feel completely well soon!

Things have been melting pretty fast around here but I snapped a couple of pics anyway. There are a lot more chickens out there but I was afraid to venture out too far since DH is getting ready to take down some widow maker icicles and they are hanging there looking very precarious right now with this rapid melt going on!

Ok Daegorn! I'll let everyone here decide. I'm kinda partial to "Run's with Camera" but "Photo Op Queen" has a nice ring to it too. Get your pencils ready....! Vote!

BTW, thank you everyone for putting up with me lately. I've had a lot of insomnia recently and I get more than a little wierd when I've had no sleep. Like breaking out in song every time someone mentions something that reminds me of a song I like (and I love the movie the Wizard of Oz). My kids just roll their eyes but DH thinks it's entertaining.
lol.png
Turns out the brain really does need sleep to function well! Still not sleeping well so you may have to endure a few more odd statements from me or an occasional burst of song! hee hee

Genny! Let's do lunch soon! You are one of the few people that can tolerate my strangeness. Or you are just good at pretending you can!

Sunny,

Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies, too! As kids we always knew when the first day of Spring was because that's when it would air and it was a special treat because it was the one day we'd get to eat in front of the TV. Nowadays it's on more frequently...and I still find myself drawn to it. Despite having all the dialogue memorized, there's always something new each viewing. (This last time I was marveling at the sepia tones and gorgeous photography of the KS scenes...something that's oft overlooked). My husband (age 60) still goes to school....loves taking college courses. I've nicknamed him "Scarecrow" and accuse him of trying for his Th.D. He says when he retires (when I let him at, oh, age 80) he'd like to just go to the seashore, sit on the beach a long time and think. ("Oh, I...could tell you why....the ocean reached the shore. I could think of things I never thought before. And then I'd sit...and think some more!") Somehow seems befitting....

Another favorite movie of mine is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" My college room-mate (the professor now) states the two movies are very similar. I think "O Brother" is just too durn funny.

re: Odds, etc. Yeppers, we make a run for the border every now and again when PowerBall or Mega is up there. Hey, dreaming is *almost* free!

When I didn't live in LV and lived in the S.F. Bay Area, I'd come here and blackjack was my vice of choice. Now I NEVER do the casinos...well, except for the occasional buffet that they keep us in coupons for. That and Derby Day... I previously bred & raised horses and in college worked in UCD large animal radiology (a lot of racehorses came through there) and so enjoy betting on the Kentucky Derby. Have done well enough at it (picked 4 out of the last 5 winners) that I've put in lots of ceiling fans in my home and new faucets over the years. (Seriously, was I the only person betting on Mine that Bird?) I usually have the horse picked before hitting the casino. At the Post Parade I can usually pick up the 2nd or 3rd place horse, too, as they're all giving off a lot of "tells" as to how they're feeling that day.... Now if only I could get an accurate lotto vibe!

Just how ornate a coop might result???

OK - knowing how you all love pics. I tried to get the one sleeping - she was laying on her belly with wings all splayed out and her foot in the face of another, too cute - but she woke up before I could snap it.

Peep_Show why aren't you doing a trifecta? That would build one heck of a coop!

In case you all haven't guessed by now, software engineer is my job. I dream in hexadecimal.
caf.gif
Sunny the first program I ever wrote was to pick lotto numbers (i.e., randomly pick six numbers between 1 and 47) in BASIC. I will occasionally play the Megabucks slot machines. I figure I don't need any small jackpots - I'm playing for the big ones!
yippiechickie.gif

Eglyntine I have been sick all week, too. It does get better - I'm finally feeling (mostly) well today.
woot.gif

As far as Daegorn's nickname goes - Runs with Camera has a Native American feel to it - if you have any of that heritage then I would say go for it! Otherwise Photo Op Queen is very good, too.

Now I have got to go see the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"! You bet the ponies like I used to bet on football. I knew who was injured who was looking to be traded and who had just had a fight with his wife!
gig.gif
These days I know nothing though! I was kinda obsessed and sorta ignored my family on sundays (and mondays and some thursdays) but only from August to December!
big_smile.png

Ron that little girl is too, too cute!!! Don't you hate it when you go to snap that award winning photo and they all of the sudden move?
lol.png
Happens to me all the time!

Nice to know other math nerds can't resist playing the long, long, long shot now and then!

OK! 1 vote for Runs with Camera and a split vote for both. Who else?
Oh for Gitlost... "Saving Lives With Scotch Tape!" For those that missed her thread, she actually used scotch tape to repair a cracked egg that was incubating! I mean this egg was missing a large part of it's shell! The baby has since hatched (with a little help) and is doing well with mom and siblings (last I heard anyway). It was amazing!

OKay guys, as of seven this morning it was officially Day 21 for two of the eggs, and at 6:00 pm tonight it will officially be day 21 for the other two.

So far there is nothing, nothing, nothing, more nothing, and a whole lot of nothing going on. I am trying my very hardest not to get discouraged. Last night I had a dream that i hatched out a cat. A cat and a brahma...

gosh i hope these little dudes are just late bloomers!
