Oh NO!!!! Elvis
How horrible........do not beat yourself up - DO NOT. I know how hard it is not too, but it was not because of neglect!!!
When you and the chickens are out, Elvis is tied to you - so you can control him instantly. It may be a phase due to moving - plus the Polish was new.
About a month and a half, after we got Tui - the Anatolian - her and our Border Collie Hannah, killed a MF Cochin chick. While I do blame the dogs, it was my fault. The night before, I had "used" Hannah to help me catch a couple chicks who were not behaving. I had her work one side of the fence, pushing the chicks back toward me and I would catch the chicks. Tui and Hannah were doing this exact thing when they killed the chick
Tui was inside the chick area and Hannah outside pushing the chicks back in. A good scolding and letting them know that they are not to even look at my birds, and we are back to trusting again and the dogs are left unsupervised with the birds. both Hannah and Tui are very sensitive to moods, and I pushed them away from me for a whole day - no petting, no leaning on me, no smiles from me - just scowls, grumpy talking to them and a lot of "get away from me, you killed my chick" plus "get out of my sight".
You know what pushes Elvis's buttons - use them to make him feel bad.
Ron - great eggs!
