Nevadans?

thanks for the warm welcome!

Sunny asked what kind of chickens I plan to raise. I'm interested in good layers and fairly calm temperament. i'm just starting to read about the different breeds. any suggestions on good ones are welcome. Are there good places/people to buy chicks from locally?

There are so many varieties of birds to choose from and a lot of folks here sell them. It really depends on what you are looking for. Meat birds, good egg layers, heat/cold tolerant fowl, pretty/unique feathering, smarter birds, friendly, egg color/size? A great place to start is the breed finder page (Breeds top of page) here on BYC. They have added quite a few breeds and it's a good way to narrow down what you're looking for.

Then let us know and we'll see if we can help out.

Personally - I am a Heritage Orpington lover. Currently am hatching blue orp chicks (ok, not me personally hatching - I have broodies doing that

) I also have some EE (easter eggers) - who lay blueish/greenish eggs. Then I have my bantams - cochins - both in Silver Laced and Mille Fleur.
