Sorry Sunny, I haven't been in Vegas to take pics of my recycle coop there. Will post when I've finally made it back home...sometime in September. The chickens are LOVING it here in the mountains of southern UT. No panting or freshly laid boiled/fried eggs, no near boiling water to drink, lots of grasshoppers and rabbitbrush to munch on, a plethora of stars filling the night sky...okay, they're sleeping so I'm the one that gets to appreciate that nightly as I unblock the nests the little juvies want to sleep in. I did take a few pics of my pullets to share with you all.
First are my pullets hatched from eggs given me by chickfrmLV. They are 22 weeks old.
Marley, my frizzle mutt (BO, BlCM, and frizzle Cochin banty is all in there somewhere) is very shy.
Yoda, my barely an EE (white legs, straight comb, hatched from a brown egg = BO X EExRIR) is quirky but cute.
The rest are hatched from ke_bens hens eggs. First are these three Ameraucana mixes (Blue Wheaten X Blue) They are all 20 weeks
O'Hara, my clean-faced EE (non-standard Ameraucana) is a bit of a drama queen.
Wrenna, my splashy EE (NS AM) is the most friendly and curious.
Xyla, my birchen-looking EE (NS AM) is a total skitzo, no, not just flighty....but certifiable.
Also from ke_bens hens eggs are my three marans. They are also 20 weeks.
Inkheart, my BCMxCuckoo mix that finally yielded a girl, (yay!) has finally molted those pesky roo like tailfeathers. She is clean-shanked and has the slightest bit of white rimming some breast feathers. I learned the hard way that this cross is sex-linked and any hatched with a white head spot are BOYS!
Nora, my BCM is just now getting some copper under her ears and she is feather legged though it's hard to see in this pic. She's so fat and fluffy, I love her!
Quorra, my BlCM is soooo pretty! She took so long to feather in I thought for sure she was a boy, silly me, such a beautiful bird HAD to be a girl! She is also feather legged. Now, I just need a splash marans (hint, hint ke_ben) and I'll be set!
I gotta say really love the hens I've gotten from
ke_ben, they are always such beautiful birds. I especially have enjoyed the mixes. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a breeder, I just couldn't handle having all my girls look the same, indistinguishable from one another. I love the variety of my flock and have had many comment on how pretty my hens and eggs are. Thanks ke_ben!!!
So...now I'm on egg watch. I had one EE that took 40 weeks to lay so I realize it could be a long time yet but I have a few younger chicks that are only 10 and 11 weeks old so ... more to come.
