Nevadans?

Elizabeth, those chicks are getting big so fast, lol. That first EE is so cute with her little fluff beard and everything else feathered.

Sheryl, where in Florida are you heading? Sorry if you said already.

Sunny, are you planning on incubating and selling some Maran chicks next year too?

Yeah well, we will have to show little Gilbert how to frighten coons now. He is the only roo I have left (and it seems I had so many not to long ago?). I can already tell that he's gonna be way more people friendly than Petey ever was. Pete really hurt my feelings when he cut me!

I agree with Tyler - Elizabeth your chicks are very cute.

Sunny - thank you very much and I don't need to do the chickie thingy with a broody, I think that's just a dream I have. But having an EE and BCM will be perfect for me and my DH next year.

Anyways,

Yep. That's why I'm getting so many. I plan to breed them with an emphasis on egg color first, temperment next, so I will be culling heavily. Not that I don't care about SOP at all it's just that I feel like breeders are ruining egg color with too much emphasis on other things. The Barnevelder used to lay a super dark, dark egg. Now even in Holland (where they originated) they don't lay an egg anywhere close to their original color. Scientists there are blaming folks for breeding out the rich color by concentrating on other things instead.

Now it's happening with the Marans and I want to start a mini revolution to start breeding for egg color first rather than SOP. JK, I'm not the first person to be concerned about this and there are a few breeders that are concentrating on egg color but there are too few breeders doing this and if we want to bring back our wonderful variety of egg colors, that chickens are known for, then more folks need to quit obsessing over SOP as the first priority.

There is a guy in Cali that organizes egg shows, also not the first, but he is really into showing folks how important this issue is and he will be at the poultry show next month. Really looking forward to hearing what he has to say on the subject since I have been doing a lot of research on this issue and his name kept coming up when I talked to different folks.

Sorry Lacey, that's kind of a longwinded yes to your question. Let me know if you want any of my culls or if you want to wait and get some of the "keepers". The culls, of course, will be much cheaper but won't lay the super dark eggs. As always I give BYCers a discount, your just not allowed to tell folks what you paid cause then referrals expect the same price and that aint gonna happen.
