Nevadans?

Pretty! If you could guess, how many of them are laying now?

Now that the potatoes are ordered, mr y mind just got turned onto another possible project. I stumbled onto an article on worm composting. With all the vegetables we eat, even after we give the chickens what they would like, we still have waste. And the big barrel composters are still great for the eggshells, coop poop, lawn clippings, dead leaves, dryer lint... blah blah. My kids' yoga teacher says she knows someone who is or was looking to sell her vermicomposter. Hmmm. I just need 5 more acres, please.
well, i know one EE for sure

, 1 BR for sure but I think its 2, one SLW for sure, possibly more than one, one australorp for sure, probably a BO, possibly a welsummer. So, I have 5 breeds and I think at least one of each has laid. I'm guessing I have 6-8 who have laid at least one. The only one I'm not sure about is the welsummer. Since they are hatchery birds, it's hard to know what sort of egg my welsummers will lay. of course, they're supposed to be darker brown, often with speckles. Most of the girls are squatting for me so it's only a matter of time. 2 of the EE's squat but 2 run away from me still. most of the welsummers squat, all but one of the australorps squat, all the SLW and BOs, and BRs squat.

yeah thats a really good green. Its funny, my ee mutt thing lays a beautiful blue egg and my half am lays a green one with white speckles. Molly's ggs seemed to have gotten a we bit darker today but it could have just been an egg from mama. I am soooo hoping i dont get ordinary eggs from these olive eggers. they are first gneration so who knows.

on good olive eggs.

Yes, I'm known to go off randomly and kick booties of people who don't give me good composting advice.

I had my husband make me two composters last year, out of black plastic feed barrels and pvc pipe. They work great, and hold 55 gallons each. Between June and October, both of them were full. It's amazing how much compostable material a household uses when you actually start stockpiling it instead of throwing it in the trash.

as for composting, I recently bought some large plastic trash cans which I'm going to convert into composters. I have a backlog of compost sitting in garbage bags in the yard. too many projects going on!

I was just browsing around Ideal's website... EVERYTHING is sold out until May, except for turkeys, waterfowl, males, and bantams. I'm so glad you all got chick fever nice and early, so I could get mine ordered early, as well.

The sold out thing is good. I have to call to give them the new expiration date on my credit card and I've been contemplating adding to my order but there's nothing I really want left.

Aubrey: Just wanted you to know that Petey has girls now!! I have set up all my breeding pens and he has one black and one white silkie hen. AND I have 6-7 eggs in the incubator already!! (but unfortunately they could be full silkie babies because the hens were with a full silkie male recently.

TYLER: Hillary had her baby!!!! 2/16 Sylas Gustaaf Evans(for you BYC folks she was the gal running the sale area at our last 2 November NNPFA shows)

Aubrey: It is going to be cool to wait and see what hatches out this time(just gotta look for the naked neck to know LOL!), already collecting Petey offspring for next batch LOL!

Aubrey: Also he has been nice, no mean rooster attacks, but he is in small breeder pen but doesn't seem aggressive as of yet. Maybe after breeding season when I take away the girls for their break. LOL

Aww, if Petey has babies, can you post pics on here? I bet they'd be hecka cute. Well, I mean anyone, and this is a very open invitation, can post pics of thier chicks whenever.
So I'm almost done creating the Fort Knox of the chicken world for my banties I got from stockton. It's everything-proof. Or so I'm hoping. My neighbor takes my chickens!!! She wont give them back and Im not about to get the cops involved into a chicken war, but seriously? remember me complaining about her last fall? Urg, I hate her. Aparently Ive got some tallented chickens. They unlatch thier cage and fly into her coop, or so she says. This summer we're moving the coop to the other side of the yard. but since my banty pair were so expensive, they get a new home now. :]
