Nevadans?

Eeeeeh, I hate turning eggs by hand! Even when it's only a few. I hope you get a good hatch.

I will need to turn my next set of eggs I incubate because the duck eggs are getting between 2.5 and 2.75 ounces and they won't fit in the turner. I just found out I was suppose to turn the eggs I was storing waiting to go into the incubator, I didn't have a clue on that one.

Sunny the polish look great! I see LOTS of boys

. Speaking of polish, though, My splash Dottie has started laying. Overnight she went from flight and timid to curious and friendly. I really love this breed. My little frizzle is looking like she is close too. Plus, Mr. Pants is getting nice and mature looking and handsome. Hes such a goofball. Hes so afraid of me but once i catch him and pick him up for chin scratches he just melts. Its funny because everytime I see him running around in the yard I catch him slipping and falling over. Its the goffyest thing. He just gets up and struts off.
Crazy that my last batch of chicks is already grown up and here I am again with a whole new batch. Im really anticipating those olive eggs though. I hope i do not get dissapointed!

Any advice on getting babies to be more sociable? This new batch is extremely frightened of me and im not sure what to do. I reach in the brooder and give good backrubs and belly rubs but they scream like im killing them.

Now the marans who was chill at first is terrified of me too. Ingrates.

Candy, im glad youre starting to feel better, good news eh?

Yeesh, so I went outside to take a couple pics of Mr. Pants, Dottie, and Lil Frizz- but it turned into me taking pics of ALL the girls, haha. So heres some updated pictures of all 21 outside birds. Yeesh.

Dottie, my recently darling little sweetheart.

Dolly Parton, my silkie from stockton

Gherkin the Lurkin' Turken. I got her from Julie at the last swap. She is a TALKER. omg this bird squawks all freaking day long. Shes so funny. And of course, here she is- squawking.

Molly, the blue birchin marans. Highly dissapointed with her egg color but she is so outgoing and so sweet that she has very quickly made herself at home in the flock. Shes such a love.

Ruby. Shes been broody for a thousand freaking years and is the sole reason why i am now finding that the girls would rather lay their eggs all over the yard rather than go anywhere near this beast.

Cochin. Yes her name is Cochin. I dont know how that happened but it stuck. I love her. Gt her from Genny to keep Baby company. I thought i wasnt going to keep her but shes just way to cute and sweet to give up. Sooooo she stayed lol.

One of the OEs, Poppy the pea comb. I think she is the most outgoing of the two...

CHUCK! freaking love this bird, got her from Sunny. Shes got the coolest personality. She sits at the back slider and watches us do our people things. Seriously if i had to gve up all but three birds she would without question be one of them.

Flora the GORGEOUS mille fleur leghorn I got in stockton. Here she is laying and egg up on top of our chicken supply pile. Weirdo.

Olive, another one I got from Genny. Had my eye on her for months, lol. I just love her feathers. Shes beautiful.

More Dolly and Gherkin.

Dotty and Mr. Pants. Oh man Mr. Pants is hilarious. I imagine him to be the bumblin bafoon bad guy in cartoons.

Another bird from Genny, Midge. shes got gorgeous lacing and is probably one of my most reliable layers. OrpxAm- id say thats a perfect cross for a good layer.

Mr Pants and Lil Frizz

Baby and Olive

Naners! Great ambasador for the Polish breed. She loves on everyone that comes over, but still chases the dog and cats out of the yard, lol. She will squat from across the yard just at hearing my voice

Lulu, the other OE

Priscilla, the luckiest showgirl on the planet. Would not stop stuffing her face for ONE GOOD PHOTO.

Mama, theee mascot!

Mama and Chuck having a lil kissy moment...

Darla, my very first chicken EVER. my other most reliable layer

Millie, the other mille fleur leghorn

and last but not least...LUUUUUUCCCCYYYYY! she was my second chicken and my original "very last" chicken, hahaha

There now...dont you all feel like you know my flock like the backs of your hands??? omg hahaha, i cant even belive i just did that. Boy if i forgot anyone I am going to feel like such a dummy. Not counting the five babies!!!!

I just got back from Lowe's... they currently have a moisture control potting soil that is getting discontinued... 2 cu. ft. for $1.48!!! I got 10 of them, for the bucket garden. So far, the lowest price we've found for that much soil is $5 for a cheaper brand at Home Depot.

Aubrey, I love the pics! Your flock is so varied. It's awesome.

Elizabeth and Missy, I have also been reading up on the golden cuckoo marans and from what i read they are somewhat sex-linked. Its hard to say though, really, but the consensus seems to be that the males ARE a light silver and the females are brown. So it looks like mine may be a hen with a big comb afterall. Il have to talk to mark about it but if either of you end up with a rooster we might be willing to take it...

That's good to know, because this one is soooo aggressive. Sahara was holding him, and he was still trying to get at other chicks. He's not hurting them, though, but I have my eye on him.

I wouldn't want to have to put one of these guys on Craigslist. They're too valuable.

well shoot, now that im digging deeper im noticing that different lines can create a different kind of difference between genders. mine could very well be a roo afterall. I put it on the " what gender is this" section because i know there is an expert on here somewhere but i forget her name. Do you notice a color difference in yours?

WOW! What a great assortment of chickens! Those Turkens crack me up!

That was my evil plan this whole time!!!

Heres my marans, I got excited earlier but hes definitely a boy. hes got a lot of silver in his bum. Im forcing him to hang out on the couch with me right now. hes sleeping in my sweater. Im trying to think of a good tough raccoon fighting name for him. Theres a lot riding on his lil shoulders if he is going to be our big roo!
