Nevadans?

) S&W already had it a couple of weeks ago. But they still have chicks left, and are getting more.

Hey everybody's got to be good at something! Talking over other folks just happens to be what I am good at!

Hi, just found the site today! Nice to meet you all. I'm in Wingfield Springs - interested in chickens, but no idea what the local Sparks/Washoe and (god forbid, what I fear the most) Wingfield Springs HOA regs are.
hu.gif
My guess is I'm probably screwed, but maybe someone out there is also in my community & would know for sure? Thanks! I look forward to learning a ton here.

I've heard that chickens are not legal in Sparks (they are in Reno). Pull out your CC&Rs from Wingfield springs to see what it says. I'm thinking it's probably not chicken friendly but who knows--of course if it's illegal in Sparks, you have another issue anyway. I do have a friend who lives in sparks--an older neighborhood--who has 4 hens illegally in a small coop in her backyard. She has been fine but I guess you never know. I'm not sure how you can really hide them--my hens are kind of loud when they sing the egg song.

Anyway, i hope you are able to have chickens at some point. They are such a joy and now after having them, I would not move to a place where I couldn't have them unless it was under dire circumstances! Good luck!

I love the wall o waters. I've had mine several years and they have lasted pretty well. I might need to replace a few this year. I think they were getting a little ragged last season.

Hi all...

Just wanted to throw some things out there since its spring! Yea!

-Looking for a new buff orp rooster, grown or I'll take a chick with a suspiciously large comb :)
(my old boy didn't make it through the winter, RIP Hank)

-Have a friend looking for white banty cochins/hatching eggs

-Looking for retirement homes for older hens, might still lay a little, but just need a sunny spot to dust bathe :)

About the planting...we are in WV and I waited until mid june last year to plant tomatoes, squash, peppers...even covered the snow killed 80% of my first attempt. Had to replant and shell out more $ for larger plants...discouraging, makes me really want a greenhouse!

Does anyone know when S&W (in carson) chick days is happening?
Welcome!!

There was someone on here a few weeks ago that was moving to Germany and had a gorgeous BO rooster that she needed to get rid of. I'm not sure what happened but I'm thinking they have already left for Germany.

Oh I use those too! I've had mine for years and use them on my tomato plants. Mine are red since they are for tomatoes only. They were especially helpful when we lived in an area that didn't freeze so completely. I could set them out in winter and they'd be ok til they got too tall for them. When we first moved here I set out my tomato plants at the normal time (late February or early March in the Bay Area with protection) surrounded by the Wall O' Waters and the things froze so completely that the plant was damaged underneath it! I'd never had that happen before! That's when I figured out that gardening here in Reno was a whole different animal!

I'm used to a short season growing up in Northern Minnesota. That is zone 3 but at least they get more precip than we do here. I'm amazed seeing the gardens back home compared to the huge effort it is here.

My kids' dad has a neighbor with a rooster, and he lives off of McCarran and York. The kids told me about it, saying it crows at all hours of the day. I guess you get away with it as long as someone doesn't report you. I heard somewhere that you're allowed 3 hens... but that was not a reliable source, either. Apparently, neither am I.

Welcome, and if you hear that you're allowed to, please let us know!

Haha, I read that on the gardening forums all the time. "How do I pull off (such and such) in a cold climate?" "Check the Minnesota cooperative extension website. They'll know."

I have no idea about Sparks! We do have a member close to you there, GitLost80, but she isn't on very often. I don't know anything about their regs. I agree with Missy though. If your close neighbors don't mind (bribe them with fresh eggs now and then) then I wouldn't see a problem.

Anyway good luck and I will add you to the opening post shortly. Welcome to the Nevada thread!

You know I'm the queen of that one! After you came to pick up eggs 3 weeks ago I had to PM you with 50 questions that I asked and then talked over you with other questions while you tried to answer!

You are seeing it as a lot worse than it was! We were all just having so much fun talking to each other! It was such a great visit. I wish it could have been longer!

Feels like Christmas Eve and Santa's bringing chicks! The eggs I gave Sunny are at 21 days tommorow! Can't wait to see what she gets!

Looks like things have quieted down around here as far as chicks. Anyone have any coming soon?
