that's good the new neighbors are friendly. I'm always paranoid about people not liking the chickens but so far the neighbors have been positive.Elizabeth, I hope your daughter gets better soon!
Yes, that's the plan... Solo cups then in at night. But I have way too many plants right now. When they're all in Solo cups, I will HAVE TO have that greenhouse. I can run Christmas lights out there for warmth, and toss a blanket on top of the plastic when it's really cold. Freezing temps aren't over yet, but just a few degrees below freezing isn't too scary.
While we were out working on the yard, the new neighbors peeked over the fence and started up a conversation about all our efforts over here. It was nice to know that they think it's such a good idea. We gave them a dozen eggs to sweeten the deal. I keep worrying that we'll have cranky neighbors, but so far everyone is really down-to-earth.
GUESS WHAT?!!! I have a pip!!! One of my marans eggs has a pip! I didn't think they would hatch cause they are from brand new layers! HeeHee! I am soooo excited!!!!!![]()
I put my roo on craigslist last year and it took less than an hour for someone to call and come get him. It was the easiest thing I've ever gave away, he was 5 months old and from a hatchery. I'm avoiding all hatcheries at all cost now.
Sunny, that's very cool! I'm so stoke for you. I can't wait for the pics to start showing up again.
I feel like this next hatching is taking forever. It's just over a week now but it feels like 2 weeks already. I'm afraid to even candle them right now. Wynnie is doing fantastic. I open the brooder and she walks out when she's ready and goes right outside. She hasn't pooped in the house at all. As soon as she hits the dirt though watch out. She does her pecking around and dust bath and walks back into the house and back in the brooder. I go over and shut the door. In the afternoons I've been opening the brooder but she does not come out. I guess once a day is good for her. I don't know how she does it. She's pulled her feathers out of her tummy this week. She looks so pretty sitting there. I can't wait to take pictures of her and her baby ducklings in 3 weeks.
I've sold EE Roos and a Polish Silkie mix for $12-20, getting ready to sell 2 WCB Polish and I'll advertise them for more because they're breeding quality,
thanks for the well wishes for my daughter. She perked up quite a bit after her bath. Hopefully she'll get a good night's sleep.

Oh yeah, Sunny you might take first place for the Easter Hatch with this hatching. I know pullet eggs do hatch out since my little roo was one and so was Mo the duckling and as you can see they catch up really fast too.
I only had 3, out of all the eggs that were set , make it past 1st candeling. All of the eggs Genny brought over from her roo Versace were not fertile. It was heartbreaking but she is hoping it's not his age but just the cold weather and that he is over waaaay too many girls (48 or something close to that). She is gonna separate some of the girls and Versace into a breeding pen and hopefully the eggs will be fertile.
I have eggs from her black orp Rembrandt in the bator right now, due to hatch next Sunday and they are fertile and developing. There are over a dozen in there from him. He is a gorgeous roo and her orp girls are stunning too. These should be some very pretty chicks for her.
OK news update on the one pip and the other 2 pullet eggs that made it to lockdown - dun tah da da...
2 chicks out of 3 eggs are out and running around and another is struggling to get out! YEA!!!![]()
I am a little worried about the last little chicky though. It was the first one that pipped and I did not know there was a pip and I opened the bator to add more water and check the hatching tray. The cabinet Brinsea's hatching tray is hard to see into since it is covered to protect little chickies from getting squished by the turning trays above. Well the poor little chick got dried out when I opened the bator (bad, bad Sunny!!!) and so I had to wet it down this morning after waking up to the other two chicks having already hatched and realizing that this one was stuck. I put it back in but it also had pipped a little too early because it still had bloody veins (bright red blood) and it's yolk sac hadn't been absorbed.
I've lossened the shell and put it back in but left it to kick the rest of the way out on it's own. I hope it makes it!Still I am very happy that I have 2 chicks out.![]()

thanks, sheryl! she is doing so much better today. My son got the cold but hopefully won't get an ear infection. My kids don't get ear infections often, fortunately.I'm sorry Elizabeth, I meant to mention her on my post. I hate when kids get sick even more so around holidays and special events. I know she didn't like not being able to go to the party.
