Nevadans?

Hi Sheryl,

I know Kirstie's BLRWs well and they are all Blue Laced Reds and great quality birds. In fact if you want to see the parents, she sold all of them to a BYCer and her website is Die Fly Ranch. It is way too early to predict color on the chicks. Here is a good example with one of my splash hens when she was young.

I thought this chick was SO ugly and wouldn't amount to much. See how orange she was, but in the next picture at 5 months the darker red and better lacing came in

Hard to believe it is the same bird isn't it? Wyandottes are slow to mature.

My Silver Laced Wyandottes didn't start to look laced until they were almost egg lating age. I was beginning to think I had been snookered! Now they're gorgeous though! I like this one, too, Candy, she's a beaut!

Well I don't know about anyone else but I had a great time at the potluck. Thanks again everyone for coming!!!
Oh man I'm so bummed I missed it! When is the planning session for the Farmer's Market though? I've already been telling people about it (marketing). A great excuse for another get together!

I was wrestling with my drip system for my trees all day.

Did you get a chance to stop by Mandy?
I had an excellent day at the show won Royalty and my buck got BOB!!! He got his first leg. I have three does due in the next 2 weeks Mandy. I'll talk with the co owner about the cost if you really want to get your son started. We will give you a steal if you join ARBA and start showing.

Wow I don't know what any of that means Tyler but it sounds great!

Congrats Tyler!

Well, last night I picked up Dijon, my cream brabanter chick, and heard a bit of mucousy sneezing. Today she's still doing it, with a little drip from her tiny nostrils. So all the babies are on Sulmet water and we're praying again for chickens.

I'm really hoping it's nothing, because we've been sooooo obsessively careful! The air ionizer is also in the bathroom with them.

Headed out to Earth Day. It's one of our big family traditions, and low-cost as well. See everyone later!
Well I will say more prayers for your chickens, too, Missy. I hope you guys had fun at Earth Day!

I did take photos, sheryl and will post them either later tonight or tomorrow. I got carsick on the way back from virginia city so i'm not quite up to getting the photos posted yet. I have had quite the month getting sick twice. I haven't been sick like that in quite a few years and haven't gotten carsick since I was a kid. Bit of a rough ride home.
Oh goody I can't wait to see them! I'm sorry you got sick on the way home, though. That road is pretty winding!

Tyler that is awesome!!

Congratulations!! I have to admit though I have no idea what "getting his first leg" means and can you explain royalty? Anyway very happy for you! Will you be showing rabbits and chickens at the Livestock show in Yerington?

PS We hatched our very first Gray Runner this am

Gray Runners and Gray Calls, took this at night because runners are hard to photograph, they are always on the run

A rabbit must earn three legs by winning there class either best of breed best opposite sex of breed best of variety best opposite of varitey, best of group best opposite of G
Best in Show Reserve in show if they win the class are entered in but only if there are 5 rabbits in that class and it has to be shown under 3 people.

Julie pm my Taylor Bates account for royalty

Elizabeth, I hope you're feeling better. I got car sick on that road before too.

Tyler, what a great job with your rabbits. I don't understand it either but it sounds like you did very well.

Seth, congratulations too. It sounds like you really had the competition.

Julie, your ducks are very pretty. I love how all the ducks are together.

Sunny, I told John about you computer issues again. Would you like him to look at it again?

Missy, how was Earth Day?

Lockdown has begun in the incubator. Wynnie's ducks are due Friday and Saturday. Hopefully there will be a great hatch. 12 eggs were moving when I candled them last night.

Ron, Sorry you missed the get together, I know how you feel.

It was ok. We had a lot of fun, but this year it has become more of an opportunity for people to advertise their multi-level marketing products. Usually, we assign the kids to tell us one thing that they learned, and in the previous years there was a lot of education. Composting, carbon footprint, etc. This year, about the only educational booths were a 4-H booth about goats, the Riverschool booth, and a booth advocating veganism. Everything else was all sales of some sort. They even had Pampered Chef and Scentsy candles... not really something I'd be looking for at Earth Day.

Two years ago, all the food vendors were asked not to prepare meat. This year, there was a booth offering huge bbq teriyaki skewers. It was very different. We're not vegetarian, but I love introducing my kids to other people's viewpoints and asking them to live it, even if only for a meal. The vegan booth didn't offer education to us, but that's because we've had a lot of conversations and meals revolving around vegetarianism and veganism.

But I bought a beautiful fair-trade basket from Ghana, for only $20. After all the shipping and markups for retail, I wonder how much the artisans get for it, and what that equates to in their economy. Also, we had fun guessing the eggs at the Riverschool booth. They had 5 eggs... an ameraucana, welsummer, white chicken egg (leghorn, maybe), and two duck eggs. One was tinted greenish-gray, but they said they didn't have any black ducks, just runners. It was funny that Sahara could identify the eggs better than the people running the booth.

And they had a lot of bands there. My favorite was a band called the "Noteworthys," a band of special-needs people. And they were really good! One of the singers had palsy, and was in an electronic wheelchair, but her voice was great. One of the guitar players obviously had a few intellectual challenges, but he played very well. And one of the backup singers couldn't even stand up straight, but he sang the lyrics where he could, and was very entertaining with his showmanship. I took a short video of them.

So we didn't stay as long as we normally did, with the lack of education. Plus, we were on foot, and had animals at home to take care of.

Today I'm catching up on a lot of work, hoping to get the rest of the seedlings transplanted. The ones in the cups are already working on their 6th set of real leaves. And I have a whole crate of snotty chicks. The two sickest ones are the ones I want most... the hamburg and the brabanter. There is Sulmet and Duramycin in the water. No puffy faces yet, and the sick ones are still eating/drinking. But they're sleeping a lot, not quite steady on their feet, and there is a lot of wet sneezing going on in there.

I got off work early today!!! At least I'll be able to get cages cleaned and go to the bank to cash my check. I'm gonna try and post pics later hard to do from my Itouch

IDK, I can't hardly get it to work at all on my old laptop. It takes forever for each page to load. On my Dad's laptop it comes right up though.

Hmm... I'm starting to wonder if it's not just spyware/adware? Tonight when I get home I'm going to run a tool to check it out. What anti-virus do you use Sunny? There is a good one called AdAware (used to just be adware/spyware remover) - even the free edition is good!
