Very nice white head too! The other mom usually takes a break when she sees me so off she went and her eggs looked unimpressive at that time, still hadn't spotted the chick under the mom next to her so I went about my chores, fed and watered the horses...came back and there was a wet chick in the motherless pile! The egg around her looked broken and there was a string of blood from the umbilical but not excessive. It's breathing but needed it's mom to keep it warm. There were two other chicks in there laying eggs so I think this one must have zipped and one of the chickens jumped in and broke the egg. I had to chase the wayward broody back onto the nest so my fingers are crossed it'll survive. It's from a brown egg and is a black chick, but man, this WCB has a nice white top which pleases me since the ones I gave Sunny didn't have a good WCB in the group (I don't think, right Sunny). Probably a darn roo since all I have in WCB are roos and I'd sure love a pullet! The two Polish eggs the other one pushed aside are still out of the nest so she has 3 Polish still under her and I can't remember how many Polish are under the one that has hatched. I'll need to go in town and buy some chick feed today.

So I guess the time the mom got on the wrong eggs was OK after all. So excited!

I have to say, with my sick dog and finding out my husband will now be going into Washington State for the next bridge (he's a supervisor of bridges for Union Pacific Railroad and they're short on supervisors) and may be gone for longer stretches then the week long stretches I can hardly stand anyway....well it has left me pretty depressed and lots of just crying lately. Was much easier when he was gone when my house was full of teenagers.....I came from a large family, got married, started my own family and now.....I'm not so thrilled about it all.

Hopefully those baby chicks will help cheer you up. I found out that my cat's labwork came back normal so that is good, unless it turns out to be something you can't detect in the lab work. But i haven't noticed anything else besides the weight loss so hopefully it's just old age. Hoping your dog will pull through.

Pam we are here for you. Let's hope you get lot's of pullets!

And perhaps by chance some other supervisor can step up to the plate and help a man out to see his wife and new babies.

LOL Aubrey! That on screen high five is hilarious! I'll be in town tomorrow so that will work out just fine. The swap is at One Stop Ranch and Feed on Glendale in Sparks. About halfway between Rock Blvd and McCarran. Do you want me to save a marans boy for you? Of course I will always be getting more boys so no rush on them.

PAM! Congrats on the babies!!! And a beautiful WCBP too!!! How exciting! No we didn't get any from your hatch. Just one with a tiny pale dot on his head and he feathered in totally dark. So sorry to hear about your Hubby having to be gone for so long! That really stinks!!! I wish we lived closer. I'd shoot by 3 times a week just to say "Hi"! How long do you have to be out of work? If you were allowed to go back to your shops full-time then the days would pass quicker. As much as I like to tease Steve I would hate to be away from him for that long! Feel free to come on here and vent anytime you need to! *huge hugs*

Elizabeth, good to hear your cat's tests came back negative. I know after losing one the weight lose would be very alarming.
