Nevadans?

Missy how is that gluten free Haven Sent Bakery? I was thinking of running down there tomorrow, early am, and setting out a DIY sandwich platter for tomorrow. I can make some soup to go with it...

If anyone else wants to stop by and say "Hi" let me know so I make enough for everyone. I know you are all probably still exhausted from last Saturday though!

It's pretty decent. That means... gluten-free is never as good as the original stuff, but that bakery does a pretty good job coming close. We would love that! Joe won't be there, since he'll be over spending time with a new friend who's also autistic. I don't want to mess around with that, since he meets very few people who are like him. Sahara has an appointment around noon, and we can head up right after that.

Sunny as of now Birthday Present and Cupcake are totally fine.

They have gotten used to Mark and I and are so friendly and sweet. People who come by absolutely love them. But i shall keep a close eye on em. If anything happens then they are welcome to live a handy-capable life here on Wesley Dr. That also goes for any of the other birds, if it seems they can still live without expectations.

Missy I totally need to get my hands on your next round of soaps. Weve just finished up our last bar and I think Markie is jonesing. Id love to come over and help/watch you make it.

Daniel welcome back! what a cool adventure those bees have become. BUT since they belong in the "creepy crawlys" and "flying crawlys" catagories I will just stay as far away as possible. LOL.

Sooooo Im thinking I need to stop being In denial about those darn olive eggers. :( Theyve been squatting for three weeks now nd ive never had any take longer than a week after squatting to start laying. I am not getting any olive eggs but hey, I am getting one interesting looking egg at least. Ive also been noticing a small pale blue/green egg showing up. It could belong to my EE but she has always layed large eggs. Unfortunately the mystery would be solved if i get three green eggs in a day as i only have two EEs but unfortunately it hasnt happened yet. I need to figure out what birds are laying because im certain a god chunk are not, and of the ones i think might be i have no clue which eggs they are laying at all.
for instance,

the two speckled eggs around the marans egg are new, i believe from the same bird. I assume one of the olive eggers. The second from the bottom is next to the white egg and has a very faint green tinge to it. I believe that MIGHT be the other olive egger egg. Although i dont see how it would be genetically possible to get an egg that light from a marans/ameraucana cross. I hate genetics.

also today i found this lil gem, its gorgeous!!! I plucked it out earlier then saw my blue birchin marans in the box and later there was a speckled egg like the ones above so maybe shes laying those, who knows. im so confused. Also Sunny, you were saying that the way the bird looks could play in what their eggs look like? One looks like a small birchin marans, the other is solid black with a teensy comb.

Hi Missy, We are still looking for land to do a lot more. If you do get into cheese I am interested in learning it myself. We are still working on the bars from our first batch of soap. We made a ton so I'm not sure just how soon we will have to do it again. I think we will ahve to give it away jsut so we can get some practice and make some different scents. Otherwise all is very well here. our third grandchild was born 7 weeks ago. We now have two boys and one girl. the latest (Charlie) is my sons first son. We are all working way to hard but that is nothing new and we get along the best when we are working together. Speaking of which I am on my way out the door to straighten up comb in the Top Bar hive.

I Understand the timing of getting bees I had to do the same thing. Certainly for the first year. It is a lot to learn and a fair investment. I will let the offer set through the weekend before placing the hive anywhere else.

I have found out pretty fast that I prefer Langstroth hives. So am moving the top bar out to make room for one more lang.

Stay well and my best on the move Sunny.

Hey Daniel! My bees are doing well, too. I just added a second brood super two weekends ago and last time I fed they were already building out comb in the new "digs"! I like the Langstroth, too, it seems really easy to maintain. Sunny I usually only spend 10 or 15 minutes a week tending my bees - they're pretty self-sufficient. The only time you spend any longer is when doing something like adding a new super. That took me about an hour or so.

ETA: Aubrey it seemed like my first batch of hens were squatting for a while - definitely weeks not days - before they started laying. I have several EEs that lay an egg I would describe as olive colored. I'll post some pics of them and you tell me.

Ron here are some examples of olive eggs i found via google. They kind of look like poop colored. I dont know why I like them so much after associating them with caca.

olive eggs with blue, white and brown eggs

If everything works out well with gregory peck, i may consider getting him some easter eggers of his own and breeding some olive eggers

Good to hear the Polish are fine!
Love that speckled egg too!!! One of my Barnies laid one like that.
I think it was Candy that mentioned egg color being related to how they look. I don't know much about that. I do know it would be pretty much impossible to get a light blue egg like that out of a marans/am mix though. I'd say that someone got bred by an unexpected roo. The light blue layers are very desirable among am owners though.
Ooooh, I really like that egg!! Very pretty!

Thanks Daniel. We are really struggling with this move for some reason. I don't know why everything seems to be going soooo slowly.

I think Steve and I need to admit we are getting old!

Anyone know of a decent housekeeper that has openings for Sunday or Monday? It is time to admit that we are just not gonna get everything done on time or on our own! I won't be able to check back in until tomorrow around noon but I am very serious about this so if you know of someone let me know! THANKS!!!

We also don't get cell service there but will get any messages left when we head out tomorrow.

Oh man! You make it sound easy! Trouble is I know zilch about tending the hive and the bees. Well not zilch but close to it! :p

Wow those are definitely darker than mine! Thanks for sharing the chart - that was really cool. I still wouldn't worry about them not laying yet after squatting. Like I say, it took mine a while.

Sorry to hear your move is taking so long Sunny. My last move took forever too but part of that was I had a lot of (too much?) time, so I wasn't hustling like is usual when moving.
