Nevadans?

I don't know how to have a garden without an automatic watering system.....I'm not that disciplined! (But it's not under plastic)
I have a drip system, but no plastic. We shut off the water supply thru the drip system at the first frost, as it is on the same timer as our lawn. I suppose if I need to water after that I will do so by hand.

Lol, I'm here!

I don't have a drip system, just automatic sprinklers with the little spray nozzels. I have a red mulch plastic that works great, and it has holes for the water to drain through. A drip system would be better, but it's a budget thing. Garden #2 just has straw over bare dirt, with squash/pumpkins as a natural mulch. I mentioned to my friend who rents Garden #2's property that a drip system would save a LOT of water for next year. He was talking about something that would save money while allowing him to run water to his swamp cooler at the same time, and that's what I recommended. But I'm doing what I call "ghetto gardening." You know, when you beg for old coffee grounds, use the scum from your pond, and make a complicated pole bean system with $5 worth of supplies from the Dollar Store.

I've had plans drawn out for a greywater system for about a year, and instructed my husband to build it. But he got busy and didn't do it. BUT... after seeing the water usage, he says he'll be sure to do it next year. And by "greywater" we don't mean a tank and pipes under the house... we mean a 55-gallon plastic barrel with a tap at the bottom, and Rubbermaid tubs with driplines attached to the bottom. $100, tops. Our washing machine is right up against the patio window, so we just have to run a hose out... put a bucket in the shower for warmup water... run our dishwashing water through a sieve... Easier said than done, when I can't get the family to turn off the faucet while brushing their teeth. But I can dream, right?

Me neither! LOL I have another one similar but more red. My hens are the white w/black spots like you have, silver laced and Black. The roos are WCB and Black.

After some searching, I think it's a Silver Laced.....but the red ones look like Golden Laced but I don't have a Golden Lace. The black roo had gold leakage so maybe he carried the gene? I have so much to learn.

I'm pretty certain that silver laced birds can carry the gold gene. White recessive crossed with silver laced creates gold leakage birds so maybe you're onto something! I think my silver laced Cochins looked like little penguins when they were young, black and grey. Maybe it's a red crossed with silver laced???? Ahh I love talking genetics possibilities! Haha

Me too Aubrey! Especially when I have so many offspring to figure the possible parent combos! I'm up to 13 Polish and mom was doing the belly and tail plucking and tapping the egg and talking to it again when I put them to bed this evening. She's still sitting on the eggs after the chicks started hatching on Wednesday!!! What a great mom! She had 28 eggs, I gave 6 to another broody, two of those hatched and this mom has all the other eggs and has hatched 11, hatching a few a day!

Check out the weird purple egg we got today. I think it's a fluke, but it's pretty neat.
I was 273 posts behind. Started from where I started and all I could remember after a couple of pages was this egg! I think we need to get our birds together ......Mine aren't this deep, but I'm hoping by next year. I've gotten some young pullets from my project that are laying a deep rose, so hopefully once I get the right roos over them, I'll start getting some as beautiful as this one. Just love this egg.

OK, I'm not going to even try to catch up. I'll read a few of the most recent posts and go from there. This is mainly what happens to me during Olympics. The world goes on, but I miss it.
