Nevadans?

I picked up 4 Blue and 2 Black Marans this morning from Jeff (Papa Brooder from the California-Northern thread)'s wife!

They came from beautiful dark eggs! Like I really needed to add 6 more chicks to the 17 I already have but I was thrilled to have the opportunity to add some chocolate eggs and eventually get some dark Olive eggs.

I hit two road construction stops on my way to meet up, so poor Jeff's wife, with their 1 and 3 year old were waiting for me when I got there (but I bribed the kids with bags of M&M's

). Hope she made it to work on time.

I placed the new chicks in the newest broodies nest while she was out with her chicks. She heard the peeping and slowly made her way back to the nest, thinking she left some behind. Exactly as I had hoped....unfortunetley the new chicks don't speak chicken so they totally ignored her motherly clucks. She did hunker down to invite them to get under her but they had no clue so I placed them one by one and they tucked in and took a short nap. When a couple got up she scolded them but they didn't understand. She finally got up and shook the rest out and worked her way out of the barn, calling to them but they didn't follow.

I left them as is and when I checked on them before I left, the grandma chicken who helps all the moms was in there along with another chicken (mine are all used to babies so I'm no worried they'll hurt them) and the broody I want to care for them was clucking her way back in. We'll see how it goes. It's warm enough today for them but they'll need mom tonight. They just need to learn a new language!

Can't wait to see what color eggs I get!

Sooooo cool!!!! Have you checked on them again now that it's dark? What's the scoop? I seriously love watching new mom/baby dynamics. It's really exciting. Good find on the dark layers! I'm Hecka jealous. I've still got the itch...

Hi,

My name is Ariel and I'm new to this thread. I live in Northern Nevada and would like to connect with others who live here.

I raise Golden and Chamois Campines, and hope to add Silver Campines in the future.

Looking forward to chatting with you folks!

Oh I don't need an easy peasy cobbler recipe I was just wondering if jam was easy because id never done it. I think Markie would not want me to use a box cake mix on these DELICIOUS peaches!!!!
I hear ya about measuring things. That's why I love cooking and get bored baking. It's too much fun to give and take and make it something really special
Although I did work in the kitchen at Intuit doing private catering so I had to get good at following recipes as well but *YAWN!*
Not true! I do a lot of baking and I can't remember the last time I followed a recipe as written. Once you get the hang of the liquid to dry to leavening balance then the sky's the limit! I find it even more challenging than cooking. Cooking and being creative is super easy. Baking and getting creative is a bit more tricky for sure.
OK I have to admit I do have a flop now and then but hey, when it works it really works!!! How else am I gonna find out what will fly and what won't? Somebody has to take the chance or new recipes would never be.
I still vote for ice cream! Fresh peach ice cream when the peaches are really DELICIOUS is the bomb!!!
I'm doing amazing! I am getting my life back. I'm able to do things I haven't done in years and I'm not living my pain anymore! It's just been 6 months in a few days, a short time compared to the 4 years I spent in pain. I can actually think again!
I know you'll be out of commission for a bit but I was able to function better within a couple of weeks after surgery and felt like I was starting to get back to life by 2 1/2 months. Im not without pain, probably won't ever but at least I can live without constantly thinking about it. Can't wait to be off all meds but that takes time.
Take care my friend and listen to your husband!
Will you quit being so darn sensible and wise while I am trying to justify my idiosy? Seriously!!! LOL I know it's irrational but I just feel like I can relax and let myself heal better after the surgery if we get the big stuff behind us first.

So happy that you are doing so well!!! It helps me look forward to the future knowing you have had this surgery and are so much happier now!!!
Sheryl, I want you to know that I'm so sorry you and your family are going through so much. Thinking about you all a lot.
Kim how are you doing? I know your family is going through a lot right now too. How's your Granddaughter doing?
So my daughter has created a free ranger out of my speckled sussex, Lucy. She's so friendly so Laila likes to pick her up and let her walk around in the yard. Now whenever I open the coop door, Lucy jumps out to walk around the yard and now she has a posse of her flockmates--the jaers, the brahma and a random silkie here and there that join her.

Glad you're doing well with your back, Pam.

sunny, you have quite a few projects on that list! hope your back can hack it until you can get surgery.
You know me. I pretty much just direct stuff these days. I know it still takes it's toll but Steve really just can't deal well with this stuff on his own most days. Well sometimes I think he could just fine but he gets nervous and says he does much better if I'm there to direct.

Oooh how about peach frozen yogurt? That sounds good, too. Hmmmm maybe I need to culture some milk and cream, then make frozen yogurt on Sunday.

Welcome, Ariel!

Aubrey, I told Joe about the possibility of being lent out this weekend. I told him that, if he worked hard enough, there was the possibility of some kind of compensation from you or me. But if he didn't work hard, then everything he does is a donation. He thinks that's a good arrangement.

The canning class went well. Elizabeth, it was so nice to see you there! Then we came home and I found that, during the 1.5 hours that the house had been unattended, one of the drakes had gotten in the doggy door. After eating his fill of dog food, he had proceeded to explore the house. He left his trail through everything but the bedrooms and the massage office. But when I took him outside, the other ducks heard him and came out of the coop to lead him inside.

Sunny, I checked out the website from your vanilla bean distributor, where I just read how to make my own extracts. Here we go again!!!! I'm thinking I'll make vanilla, lemon, almond... yum! Lol.
