Nevadans?

I was thinking of going out to the blm land and tossing her there, at least the coyotes might get a meal... Please understand I love our chickens and I was/am devastated she died, I have just had one of those
mornings...
This is what our 17yr son did trying to back out of our driveway this morning at 7:00a.m. Luckily a neighbor was home and was able to pull the mailbox off with his truck.

ooh! Thats a GOOD ONE!
I have this policy where whenever Mark drives my car he HAS to put it in neutral once its parked. He prefers to leave it in gear so when i drive his car i always remember to leave it in gear. However with my car its just a habit for me to put it in neutral, then when i start it in the morning i have nothing to worry about.
well one time Mark drove my car and i had totally forgotton. I got in to go to work. Turned it on, let off the clutch, and BAM, the car flew into the side of the house! hahaha. He didnt put it in neutral! ahh! So i put it in reverse and backed up. Bad idea, the nozzle to the water spigot was wedged in my bumper and when i backed up it pulled it off and there was water flying everywhere. It sounds awful but it was pretty slapstick.
Thats how i look at these little misadventures. Just lifes little slapstick moments ;)

BTW if you feel comfortable just letting her be a meal then thats all the power to ya! I couldnt do that but that doesnt mean i would ever judge someone else for being able to. Lots of other people just throw them in the garbage and i think thats fine as well :)

hey you guys...

MAMA JUST ATE A PIECE OF BREAD OUT OF MY HAND! I gave her 4 syringes of yogurt (1 syringe is 3.5 cc) then put her back in her little crate. I noticed that when i put her back she was pecking at and trying to eat the pine shavings. So i took her out, cleaned out all the shavings, and lines it with paper towels instead. she wasnt interested in her bowl of crumbles so i spread out 1 tsp of crumbles all over the floor of the crat to see what she would do....she gobbled them up! I was eating a slice of bread and she ravenously grabbed a chunk and ate it! Yay! she even has her color back in her face! Its amazing! Im about to go to the feed store to get a needle for the pen-g. feeling good, but not getting my hopes up just yet :)

Yaahhh Mama!

I concur with the antibiotics post surgery. Any chance there are any edible ones you can use?

Re: What to do with a dead chicken...

If you're someplace where you can recycle the bird back into the cycle of life, great! I'd be worried, though, that you'd be training critters about the joys of fresh chicken and where to get 'em, though. If too close to the coop you might be creating more of a problem than just post-mortem disposal.

Any chance you're near a zoo or wildlife preserve that might like the bird for one of their residents' dinner? Or you could Craigs List it as large snake food....

I have baytril oral tablets or I have the pen-g injectable with nothing to inject in. Pros for baytril are that there is no shot but the con is that I can't be positive that her body will take it through her stomach. Pen g pros is that I know it will work immediately but the con is that I have no where to stick her

Does she have any thigh muscles? I think the reason they say to put it in the breast is because there are not a lot of veins running through there.

Or, what about subcutaneously? That would be just under the skin for her body to absorb it. Intramuscular is better, apparently but in the absence of any breast meat to inject into...

I'm doing the happy dance over here now that she is eating

She has nothing anywhere. She is a bag of bones, quite literally. I thought about just doing it under the skin but wasnt sure if that was an okay way to do it. If its an acceptable route then ill do it. I am going to let mama be the judge. Im gonna show her how big this needle is, then stick the pill infront of her and see if she eats it LOL.

Can you get Baytril at the feed store or do you have to go to a vet?
