Never Ending Predators

2 inches by 4 inches they got through? I can't imagine them fitting completrly through that--raccoons can got in small openings.

Last summer I had oppossums and raccoons--whole families living about 10 ft away from chickens on the other side of the fence. I ended up with an electric fence. The people across the road lost their hen to an oppossum,, they shot the oppossum. A second oppossum came along and they shot that one, then a raccoon attacked the man and they shot it. So this year I noticed a time frame with nothing but then skunks came back and strong. It seems like it's either the skunks or the oppossums and raccoons

I do believe the skunks have gotten zapped a couple times because I smelled them and when I went out there the smell was in one area in the yard and not in the front. It's been a couple weeks since I smelled them so I'm thinking they learned with the fence. I was so against that fence in the beginning but I've learned to love it. I'm always on guard but I have some peace of mind.

I have 2x4 welded wire with chicken wire hog ringed to it. So far nothing has breached the fence but I also have electric wire around my coops and pens. The predators here know it's there.
Here is a fox and a coyote at the chick grow-out coop. They know the electric wire is there.

Here we have a lot of coyotes. Here is a video from one of my game cameras last night. They know the electric wire is there. Hopefully the video will load. My computer died so I'm using DH's computer and my ancient netbook.

:lau:gig The coyote taking a poo right on camera is priceless!! You need to make voices for commentary and post it on YouTube...could make you a star!!:pop

Hopefully this helps you solve your issue with the possums. I definitely agree with setting the live traps. From experience, nothing seems to get them like dry cat food for us

I have a few pictures of them going potty either peeing or pooping. I have discovered over the years that most of the predators have routines and routes. There are some I can actually identify from others as regular visitors. If you have an incidental catch with a live trap, you can release it, but predators caught here aren't released. I also have objection when other release their catches in my area, which has happened before. Once someone dropped off a young gosling in my driveway. We are rural on a dead end road.
