That was an enlightening experience. I noticed yesterday what looked like dried poop on one of my babies' backside. I didn't find out until today that it was pasty butt. Luckily I was able to get it cleaned off, but now I'm worried I didn't catch it soon enough.

Pasty Butt happens due to stress, temps too warm & feed. Clean with a Q tip/cotton ball dipped in warm water, don't let it build up cause harder to remove. I add ACV with the Mother to their water (1T/gal) and make sure the brooder's not too warm.

It can also happen after shipping stress.

Keep an eye on all of your chicks checking them daily. Probiotics and electrolytes added to their water can help too. Vaseline/olive oil around the vent too keep the poo from sticking can also help.

Mine were all hatched here at my home, but this one was almost two days later than the first, I'm thinking that may have something to do with it.

It absolutely could especially if it was a late hatch.

You'll also need to double check and calibrate your incubator thermometers before your next hatch. If there are chicks hatching up to two days late it's likely you have hot or cold spots or both in your incubator.
