New at this - please help!

It can take ducks and goslings what seems like an eternity to hatch compared to chicks. Don't help. if you break the egg and he doesn't have to "work" to get out he won't be strong enough and if it is too early and he hasn't turned enough in the egg to crimp off the umbilical (or whatever you would call it in a egg) he will bleed out. I have had them pip then take up to 48 hours to get out and I have had them take less than 12 hours to pip and hatch. Last night I had 1 gosling almost out and no other pips, by this am I had 2 dry goslings in the bator!

Also I always hatch chicks and waterfowl together with no issues, I just mist the waterfowl eggs 2 x a day with room temp water.

Good luck!

Its a tough call because you don't know what day he's on. If he's really rolled around a lot, personally, I would first candle it and check the size of the air cell. If it is about 1/3 then that means its pretty much hatch time. Since your humidity has been low or unmonitored, I would probably help... but when I help, I do not help them completely. I only ensure that the beak gets out of the membrane to prevent a dry membrane from sticking to the nostrils and causing suffocation. I've lost a lot to that because the humidity where I live fluctuates wildly. The reason why I mention it rolling around is because a goose with its long neck gets disoriented if handled too much or rolls around too much or if its turned too close to hatch date. I've also lost them to being positioned in the wrong end. Thats no fun either.

Mine took forever too! I think they pipped day 29 and didn't all completely hatch til day 31 after bed! It was nerve wracking!

Good luck with your goose egg!
