New babies and now worry

We had 2 chicks hatch out today- they seem really happy in their new home with feed and water and a nice warm bed. Only one of the other eggs is peeping- it has a small pip in the side- hardly moving, no sign of zipping and peeps are few and far between. I truly think the other chicks are gone- the eggs are full but no movement, no peeps, nothing...

Should I help the one out or just wait a little longer? I don't want to loose what could be the last one.

Ok, what day are you on? I almost ALWAYS have one or two that hatch a day before any more even start to pip. Lil stinkers.

Well- there's part of the problem! We don't know. We got the eggs from a farmer and he did not know the exact date- just that he thought they would hatch "sometime" this week. I can see no movement in 4 of the other eggs. One of the eggs I can hear peeping sporadically- small pip in the egg. Just don't want to loose that little guy! Also, my 2 that hatched have "sticky" backs. They are dry and fluffy except their backs- dry but stuck to their little bodies. What can I do/should I do about that? Also, does that mean my humidity is too high?

If it is completely stuck down and hard, then your humidity is too low. If it is sticky feeling, then too high.

help me out here - are these in an incubator? Where were they when you got them? And how far did they have to travel to get to your bator?

We took them from his large bator and placed them directly into ours- traveled about 30 minutes to our house- in the bator the whole time. It's not super hard but definately NOT sticky to the touch. Should I try to clean it up for them or is it OK to leave it??

You can leave it. I have some pics of a shrink wrapped chick after I cleaned her up and then about 3 weeks later. Enjoy, and feel free to laugh. Her name is Elmer.

Now that I am done bragging..... I have never heard of picking up eggs from one bator to another and traveling with it! Was it plugged in to your lighter??

What do you mean shrink wrapped? Yes- we had it plugged into our truck! So will the soft fluff that is currently stuck to them eventually fluff up or will I have to help?

When I peeled the shell off of Elmer, the membrane was completely dried on her and she was stuck in a ball. It took about 45 minutes to get her to look like the first pathetic pic.

Well, it seems you did everything right, just be patient!!!! Chicks can take 24 hours or more sometimes to hatch.

OK- I have 4 other eggs- no peeping, no movement. One had a significant pip in the side- should I do what you did and try to see if I can help it out or is it too late???
