Newbie here. Picked up my second batch of chicks today. 4 Copper Maran babies are now in my brooder. The first batch was 3 easter eggers and 3 Barred Rocks. These little Maran babies are LOUD!

Welcome to BYC and congrats on your new additions. Are the newbies brooding with the larger/older birds or on their own? New babies generally settle in after the first day, they've had a lot of upheaval in their short lives and need a moment to catch their breaths and enjoy some stability. One way to help them naturally settle is to use a Mama Heat Pad for their heat source -- it more closely mimics natural (hen based) brooding and allows for the development of a normal day/night cycle.

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points from Ken, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
