I got my babies today and boy are they cute! I'm a little concerned though, one of them (can't figure out which one) has a little bit of blood in their poo. Everything looks fairly solid and normal, but a hint of a red color.

The breeder did mention that she doesn't use medicated feed, and I read in another post that the medicated feed has the stuff to treat cocci (sp?). I did purchase medicated feed and they are gobbling it up like crazy. Everyone is eating, drinking, and napping like crazy and seem to be fine, but since I'm a new chicken mom, I'm worried! Any advice?

I'm not sure about the bloody poop. If they are all eating drinking sleeping and pooping... it could of been just a one time thing. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

OH Yeah

With blood in the poop it can be either of two or three things. One it can be shed bits of intestinal linning which is normal, rough handling for the first day, or cocci. Since the first two are not a problem i would be on the very cautious side. Defininely use the med. feed. If it does not stop then use corid or another med for cocci. Aren't chicks great?

Oh, well this makes me feel a little better, maybe! I'll try to get a picture and post. Everyone is eating, drinking, and napping just fine. I have only noticed a couple poos that look a little off. The poo is a tiny bit runny, but mostly solid and looks tinted red, not like a blob of blood. Does that make sense?

After looking at the poo pics (ew!) I'd say it looks most like the ones where the lining is being shed. More pink than red. I'm still going to post pics though if it happens again. I'm a nervous new mom! Thanks everyone!!!
