New babies

Very cute, but you really should get them off the newspaper asap

They need good traction right now or they may end up slipping/doing the splits, injuring their hip joints and then you'll be dealing with splayed legs or other types injuries that may not be fixable. Well textured paper towels or the rubberized shelf liner works great for young baby keets. I do not recommend shavings when they are this young either because they can eat them, become impacted and die. I always use rubberized shelf liner or coarse straw for at least 2 wks and avoid any injuries altogether.

Guineas are very flock oriented, even at a really young age. Comfort in numbers. The mirror makes them think there are actually more keets in the brooder than their actually are, and keeps them more content.

we put a mirrow in for them and they never even went by it or when they did they didn't notice themselfs. the leghorns and turkeys on the other hand would stop and comb thier hair, flex thier muscles, smile, pick thier teeth etc...

Peeps: yeah I read that somewhere but newspapers was the cheapest option for right now but with the grass we put in (now its brown and stiff) its a little more sturdy in there. I've kept a close watch for any limping and anything and so far so good. And today im goin to clean out the old paper and put in some new and I will put more grass in before I put them back in.
Jbirds: lol that's too funny :) the Keets mostly just sit in front of the mirror, they don't really admire themselves yet.

I have noticed that the two older Keets are starting to get their feathers! :) I can see them coming through their fuzzy little tails and poking out the edges of their wings!! It's soooo exciting

when I woke up this morning they were quiet so I thought the worst lol but they were all asleep and comfy.

When you come in, finding one or more layin' flat on their breasts, neck stretched forward and feet stretched back?
Don't panic then, either ... that's how some of mine slept (heart hit my stomach, 'til I found out the were just fine ~'-)

Yes!! The first night I noticed one doing that and it scared me so I reached it to touch it and it jumped up and ran lol so I read some more online and someone sai they like to lay that way lol.

Knew I'd taken a picture, but it took a while ...

... yes, folks, they're perfectly fine (just one of the ways they'll rest ~'-)

So after losing my runt to pasty butt last month, the other 5 are getting huge and starting to find their adult voices :) and all 5 now fly out of the box and sit on the edge for a little while everyday. Turkey is the meanest and I think going to be the leader of the pack. I had to squeeze my pregnant belly passed them to go to the bathroom and he hissed and struck at me every time I moved my hand lol. Can't wait for my husband to get home this weekend (after being gone for 2 months) do we can make some adjustments to the chicken coop so they can get moved outside.
