New baby chicks have all died HELP I have been raising chicks and chickens for a long time :(

oh gro gel was spread on tea cup saucers as I always do?? and they definatly ate it?? I added water to it over and over because they were not visiting the water as much... Like I said though, did not really notice the green poops like I usually do :(

Oh my! My heart goes out to you. I have always purchased my chicks locally. However this year, for the first time, I have ordered 8 assorted breeds which I chose and they are to arrive Wednesday, the 22nd. I am now a little worried, but I will hope for the best. I hope you are able to determine what went wrong and I hope this never happens to you again. I am new to this "family of chicken lovers" and I have just started to blog. I will keep in touch and hope you post more about your situation. Try to find a smile for the ones you have left who need your TLC!

Contact the hatchery. Some hatcheries offer replacements if they die with in 2-3 days of arrival for the chicks. Call them Monday morning and explain what happened.

I definatly will, BUT, I am afraid to have this happen again.. ?? I am going to ask if they can make sure the box is definatly sealed up tight.. Ok I am now down to 3 americanas.. One is foaming at the mouth :( This is sooooo depressing , I feel so helpless - NEVER EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN :(

Here's to hoping the final babies make it

Have you changed your brooder light this time. There are some coated with a shatterproff material that gives off fumes and can kill the chicks. Be sure they have one end of the brooder they can go to if they get to warm at the other end. Mine do not like to stay in a really warm 90ish temp. all the time.
Some of the chicks last year around the ctry had ecoli and died, some had salmonella and died directly from the hatcheries. Call the hatchery and check and see if others have had problems. Also it could have been rough handling in the shipping. Good luck with your next chicks. Gloria Jean

Thanks everyone, I just know it had to be in the handling, I have since found D'uccle local and just love them ! They are doing great, feel so lucky

I would be after a refund if I were you. My 16 chicks, sexed and inoculated for Merak's cost me a pretty penny. I could have cut my cost in half if I would have bought local. But I did get exactly what I wanted and the babies are very healthy. I would definitely let the hatchery know. They may need to change some things on thier end so it dosn't happen to other people.

Yes they are a great hatchery! I have ordered from them for years. I think it was in the handling, other local people have said they have had similar things happen, the box had been opened several time you could tell :( Oh well
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH EVERYONE
