new baby geese

They look almost the same, except I'm partial to ours Lol. I take them out for walks everyday and let them eat all the grass they want, they are just to cute. We are first time goose-rs also and are loving it, here are some pics that I took four days ago. The little devils kept picking each others down so I made them a little jacket so they couldn't do it and I think it helped. At least until Gus managed to get his off so I left them off and I think they are better.

Here is there new house will most likely have to expand but will work for now. They sit by the door and wait for me to get them out. These were taken on the 6th and they have grown since then.
Will try and keep new pictures up as often as I can. I'm getting better uploading the more I do it Lol. It will be exciting watching all the siblings grow!
I love those shirts they are just too cute, and may I say something about their house? It needs so sort of ventilation, up around the top and also some windows. use hardware cloth to cover the cut outs, but air circulation is very important to their health.

There is a large air space all across the back of there house, my husband is going to add another one in the front. My little babies don't sleep out there at night I have just been putting them out in the day when it is warm. The nights are still a little cold for me to leave them out so I have them in a plastic box in the house at night. My husband just had an operation on his arm so he just put all this together so we would have a place to keep them until he gets healed up.
Here are some more pics of today.

The tub( snow toboggan) that you seen in there pin is what I used to make a bird bath for my front yard, I'm still working on it I have to put the gravel in it still. Its nice to sit on the front porch and watch all the birds taking a bath and eating in the bird feeder, and watching all my chickens, geese and guineas

Ms Lilly I think I might paint her nails so I will know it is her in the pictures!

Ms Lilly in front and Gus in the back this time

Mr Gus in the front and Ms Lilly in the back. As you can see he has all new down growing on his back.

that is my dog joey she goes everywhere with us Gus in front Ms Lilly in the back as you can see Gus stays closest to me

Mr Gus he is all about staying close to mama I can't get very far way and he just comes pitter patting along.

I see you let your babies swim. Can we do that????

We haven't let them do that yet. They would probably love it. Anything else fun you let them do?? We have a big run in the back yard for them with lots of fresh green grass to eat plenty of sun and shade and lots of drinking water.

I gave them a swim in warm water in the tub then blow dried them so the wouldn't be cold just like a baby. That was the first night I got them and they just loved it. If you could have seen Gus when he figured out what was going on he just dove under the water it was so cute .

Love the jackets you made for the goslings... What a lovely bird bath. I like the bull or cow seat.
Thank you. These little goslings are going to be spoiled rotten. Already the guineas watch over them and the dog. I have a Americana chicken and she was trying to get in there house today like she wanted to go in and mother them. Its like the whole barnyard comes out to see the new babies

Hey Donna,
Well we are going to let the babies go swimming today!!!

They will love it. And we take our for walks too. They follow us everywhere. It is so cute. I will sit to watch them play and if they get scared they run to me and hide under my legs. I just love it. Olive and Brutus are so much fun. And Donna I think the hatch day was April 26-27 but I know Shellie knows the exact date. She told us they were one week old when we picked them up and that was last Saturday the 4th. Your two are so cute too, they look just like our pair. Our little girl is twice the size of our boy though its funny to watch them. I fed them watermelon and kale as well as the grass but they haven't seemed interested in it yet. Will keep trying different treats until I find their favorite.

Shellie-- We can't wait for our next set of babies. Still trying to pick out names for them. On a different note though with our geese we have now. She is sitting on 7 eggs and has been for 2 weeks. We candled and there is nothing. I think maybe they are too young like you had told us and they shouldn't even be having babies yet. WHat do I do with the eggs? I want to take them from her.

I love the pics. How cute are they. We are going to put in a little peanut water feature with a water fall in the back garden area for them to swim in. won't be too big but big enough to float around in when they are full grown. LoL It will provide nice fresh water too. Thanks for all the ideas. Its funny to see that your little guy stays close to you. Ours is the same way. Olive is much more adventurous than Brutus. We are babysitting our neighbors dog and they were pecking on her yesterday in the sun is was so cute.
Well off to build a water play area.

Hope this is truely the end of the season for FL geese so having no development is not shocking. Yearlings dont have as strong of fertility as 2 year olds and older, and combine that with end of the season slowing fertility there is no surprise in a nest of blank eggs.

If you can remove her from the house as we talked about and take the eggs while she is out. Then you can remove the spent bedding she used for a nest and replace with new. I would makeher get up and out every day after removing the eggs and lock her out of the house for a few days so she gets the hint its time to wonder with the flock again.

We are looking at the end of May or beginning of June for our Ocala trip. Trying to plan around final hatches and schedules for getting all of the geese delievered on that trip.

Donna,

We are about to do chores, but yes I will pull the hatch log from their wing bands and let you know. We kept back a set related to yours and Hope's pairs as well.LOVE the shirts and the house and yard you made them. Keep up the great work.

Shellie
OK Shelly no hurry just would like to write down there B-day. I am so glad that I decided to get them they just keep you smiling the whole time your out with them Thank you so much for doing what you do. I have been reading all the post from Iain in Utah when she rescued the Geese from Calif. and all the work you and everybody did to help out it was great and nice to hear that people really do still care.
We had a big storm blow through here last night, blew all the chairs off the front porch and rain like there was no tomorrow. We got up to sunshine this am and another beautiful day that's what I love about being in Texas, rain one min.sunshine the next.
