Hi just joined!
I have 3 little kids, 4yo, 3yo, and 1yo. My 4 yo wanted a puppy, I said no (we have a dog and cat) however I've always wanted a chicken and my husband thought the idea was great!
Super tough finding them, it took me weeks and then a 1.5 hour drive but I found them (thank goodness because my oldest was set on a barred rock)
I brought home just hatched chickens, 1 barred rock, 1 black Australorp, 1 buff orpington and 1 americauna that I'm sure is really an Easter egger, although it looks nothing like a chipmunk? They are 2 weeks old now and my 4 year old loves them! I can't believe how friendly they are! Although the EE is not quite so keen on being handled yet. Which is fine going to see if she warms up by hand feeding her a little bit. Their brooder lives inside with us and they have become very used to all the littles quite quickly!
I'm surprised though, my Australorp seems smaller than my other chicks, even though they're a large breed. She's very healthy happy and alert otherwise. And the americauna/Easter egger is looking like my biggest one! Although online they say they're smaller than the other breeds we have? It's a bit of a head scratcher. Hoping the EE isn't a roo of course, but we'll see!
Nice to meet everyone!
