My name is Nolan, I’m definitely a novice chicken owner. When the price of eggs got up to $12 a dozen in my area my wife and I decided to raise our own chickens. We started with three bantams and a dozen fertilized eggs. Sadly the three live chickens were taken by coyotes the second night in their coop at about 8 weeks old. I’ve faired much better with the fertilized eggs though. I was able to hatch 7 little bantams out of the dozen, four roasters and three hens, which is what I have now. They’re close to 5 months old now. I separated three roosters and put them together in a separate part of the coop I built while keeping one with the three hens. I wanted to get more fertilized eggs to hatch with these hens and then I will keep all my hens together with no roosters when I have enough chickens to lay eggs as three just isn’t enough, bantams have small eggs LOL. I’m not sure exactly what breed they are, they’re all really beautiful and they’re all bantams, maybe some Brahmas?Theyre names are Rooster, Juan Carlos, Whitey, Blackie, Ana, Danika, and lastly, Baby. I think my favorite part of raising these chickies is watching them learn and grow and develop the funniest personalities, they have me laughing constantly. It’s a little more work than I expected, but now that they’re in their coop and getting older it’s easier to manage them. Playing Mamma Hen for their first 8 weeks was exhausting at times but well worth it LOL. Some of my other hobbies are fishing, hunting, gold panning, hobbie cars, right now a 77 f250, I enjoy gardening, landscaping, and I tattoo. I am married to a smart beautiful woman named Cassie, going on 16 years and we have a chocolate pit bull who turns 2 in November. And I also have a snake and a lizard. That’s about all I can think of to share though, I hope I can contribute to this community as much as I’m sure I will learn here.

Hiya, Nolan, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry about the rough start. :hugs You've apparently upgraded their coop/run. Many of us have had to do that.

If you want to know in case they are a certain breed of bantam, you can post their pictures in our What Breed or Gender forum and folks will help figure it out. The are very pretty!

We're glad you're here!
