I understand how having a barred hen with a non barred rooster creates sex-linked chicks.

My question is does it matter how faint or little barring the hen has? I have a couple of frizzled cochins that are barred blue on blue and it is very faint. Should they through sex-linked chicks also? Or will it be too hard to pick up the barring on the males?

Right, still is sex linked and does show best on black. However the white spot on down should still be there. Probably won't be easy to see on most splash chicks but sometimes if you look really close there's a "distinctly white-r spot" on the light down.

The reason barring can be faint on blues is due to pigment structure, which has a side effect of making barring blurry to varying degrees.
